Well guys I really went it did it this time. My employer came up with a fairly decent retirement plan and I decided it was time to do somethng else. The bad news is that my last day is 3/31.

The good news is that I ordered a new boat. I bought a 16.6 Lund Classic Sport which means it has a walk through window instead on individual consols. It comes with a decent package of equitment including a 60 hp 4 stroke Merc to make it go, a trailer with a folding tongue so, hopefully, I can fit it in to my garage. It has Minn-Kota bow mounted trolling motor with foot pedal control and a depth finder. The bad news is that it woun't be in until the middle of April.

I will need a VHF radio and a portable GPS. If you guys have any recommendations as to what brand/model to purchase, let me have them. If you have any ideas or suggestons regarding other equipment, please let me know. :fish:

First of all congrats.

Second, you may want to have a mod move this post out of the ice fishing area.

As far as GPS I have the Garmin e-trex with the 8 meg storage. I have a ram mount so I can use it on my boat. Used it last year and it was a nice addition. I would love a fixed mount with fish finder but it's not budget right now.

I have an Icom radio with an 8' antena worked well too.

Thanks for your input. I was looking at ICOM radios on the Internet yesterday and they seem to have the largest number of options and the best reviews of any of the common brands.

I'll second the ICOM reply. I know they are favored by the USCG.

Icoms are great radios and Garmin makes really user friendly GPS/Fish Finders. There are so many options out there, decide what your looking for, narrow it down a little, then get opinions once you have more specifics.

As for a radio, if your gonna be on the big water, get a fixed radio with 8' antenna, and dont go cheap on the antenna.

Congrats on the retirement....
