Does anybody here chum for steelhead? If so, how well does it work? I've never did it, but seen a couple instances this winter on the Au Sable to want to check it out.

I've found it works on the medium to smaller size rivers or if the flow is way down.
Too much current on the Big M or the Mo.
I could see it working on the AuSable as long as the water wasn't up.
If you have a hole just chuck out eggs upsteam of the hole and start fishing it.
It tends to get any smaller trout on the feed too:)

i been packin these full of spawn and lowering them on the riggers 1ft off bottom.then drop spawn back thru the holes.these things put off one heck of a cloud.

wow:SHOCKED: that thing is pretty cool. its funny, my dad and i were talking about something like that, just the other day. we had ideas of cans of sardines with holes punched in em to release an oil slick. looks like the bait bomb makes things allot easier...if you dont mind me asking, who makes it, where do you get them at? thanks, i appreciate it.:)

Seems like a giant waste of spawn to me, but if thats what you feel you need to catch your fish then go ahead.

I find it hilarious when guys catch a hen and can hardly wait to open her up to get some skein, or what have they been calling it lately, "steelhead gold"? I've been using loose salmon eggs all season long and catching plenty on them, so I dont think the fish really seem to care, as long as it tickles their fancy when it floats by, I guess. Plus I dont have to mess around with the goo thats associated with tying up skein bags.

To each his own...

Hasn't this topic been beat to death already. If you want to try it then try it. Some times it works and sometimes it does not seem to matter. When everybody reads about it on a post like this and starts doing it, the fish will shut off from biting eggs after awhile.

i'm not to sure if throwing handfuls of eggs in the river is legal anyways.dnr is pretty touchy on throwing fish waste like that in the river.thats way i came up with the bait bomb, and yes i contacted dnr to see if that was legal being it does not let any solid matter out and you retrieve it back out of the water when your done.you might want to hit the dnr site and shoot that question by them before you get a ticket.i never chummed like that for this reason.
