I use the Tri-Tronics sport 60 on both my dogs, the nice thing about the 60 is that it has a tone only feature, it emits this tone when they are being "corrected" but also has a button for just the tone, now when they get a little hard headed all I have to do is "tone" them and they stop what they are doing. I have two units they both went for $260 plus tax.

this would be a great question for the upland/dog training forum.....! Also, do a search on E-collars, I am sure you will find much info addressed already on the different e-collars! Good Luck!:)

I have the Tri Tronics 60 as well on my golden. So far its been great, although my dog has quickly associated the beep with "better turn back or hunt closer" kind of expensive for the three times I had to correct him. But its a good device to have just in case.

I use the tri tronic 70s have 2 sets 2 dog set and 3 dog set dont need them all the time but they sure help on my beagles. They both have tone options on them and they stay charged along time. All the guys i know around here have them for training they are spendy but worth every cent.

Pro 100XL 2 - Dog. If I had to do it over again I would have bought the Pro 200 XL. The 200 has more NICK options than CONTINUOS.

Up to this point I only have had one dog. But got me a Puppy now. So when he grows up.......

Tritonics worked for me,.... and for the other guy... I would have shot my dog If i never used one on him... He lived to be 15 years old and the best dog a man could want... the training period was a month/

Tri Tronics probably has the best track record.

Tri Tronics is truly the only safe way to go. I was training with a guy that had Innotek. The dog got nailed and yelped, he never touched the button. Then again and again. The trainer finally said that he had seen it before. Cb radio's operate on a close frequency to some. TT has eliminated all possibilities of this happening. I have used them on my dog's and have never had a problem, unless you lose the remote overboard.

I purchased a Tri-tronics shock collar 12 years ago and its still going strong. It was a reconditioned model from the Collar Clinic in Traverse City. You may want to check them out.

My brothers friend said that his friends neighbor recommened some e-collar that he used on his dog. He got it and noticed if his neighbors dog was out at teh same time and he shocked his dog it would shock his neighbors also. I would only go with Tri-Tronics or Dogtra.

Tri-Tronics Sport 65 Beeper. I like it but haven't really used it since I bought it last summer. I bought a Tracker collar to use instead of the beeper and only use the stimulation for emergencies so it really doesn't get used. Probably sell it in the future and get a 2 dog unit with no beeper or a beeper with more control from the transmitter. I like TT but I would look into one of the other manufacturers that have better beeper controls from the transmitter if you want a beeper.

I would consider what type of hunting you are going to do first and what you want the collar to do, then make a decision. You have not metioned what type of hunting you will be doing with the GSP, but I would guess that it's primarily upland birds right? If you are going to use the dog for waterfowl I might look for a collar/transmitter that are BOTH waterproof. If water is not in the equation, don't worry about it. I'd just hate to spend some decent cash on one that isn't waterproof and take a face plant in a stream and ruin the thing.

Also owning a versitle dog, I went with the DogTra 1200 as it is one of the few makers of a 100% waterproof collar and reciever. I have yet to have a problem with the collar. I've owned it for 2 years.

Another vote for Tritronics Sport 60. I've had mine going on 4 years and have used it for waterfowl and upland hunting and it works great.

There is only one brand of collar that I will use and own... Tri-Tronics. Everything from quality to service is there... You simply can't go wrong.

I think your questions have been answered, and don't think your gonna get much more info that what has already been given. Go here and look for a model that best suits your preferences and budget.

I have been thinking of getting something for my parents dog. He isn't a hunting dog or anything, he just has absolutely no discipline. He is a 3 year old Lahsa Apso, tall for his breed and he weighs maybe 20 pounds. Just today he ran away twice. Once the weather is nice he tends to dart and he is gonna end up a pancake on the road, it's almost happened a couple of times already. Would one of these Tritonics collars be something to use to train him to listen to commands or would some kind of electric fence work better? The only thing that used to work is the neighbors mini-schnauzer or pupperoni which isn't working anymore. Thanks!

electric fence would probably be your best bet. In order for it to work successfully, you have to teach your dog where the boundaries are otherwise you may end up with a dog that just sits in the backyard too afraid to move. Mine works great and I can leave my dogs outside unattended, downside is it doesn't keep other dogs out. Make sure to unplug it and take the collar off the dog during a storm, had lightning hit mine last year and fried the control unit. I have an older model that doesn't have the lightning protection.

Has he had obediance training? A collar is not a cure all. If the dog has not been trained properly, and the owners are not consistent in enforcing that obediance, the collar will be useless. You would have to have it on him 24/7, and that is not possible. I know people that have dogs that are perfect angels with the collar, but take it off and they are gone. If he has absolutely no discipline at 3 yrs, my money is on lack of training and the collar isn't going to do you much good. Better off investing in some chain link fence and a some training.

I have a hidden fence in my yard, worked great for my first two dogs, then we got our husky. It did'nt take her long to figure out that the fence only zaps for a certain distance, and if she ran real fast after that rabbit, the short zap was well worth it. Then she would come back and sit on the outside of the zap zone till I went and got her. Then I bought a training collar. made all the difference in the world. Just get one that has the beeper for a warning, then if it still wants to run you can zap it. A few days of trainng, and just putting the collar on will give it the message. My dog does'nt leave the yard anymore.

Not sure if you noticed this or not "Richard", but lots of the guys that have the Tri-Tronics give praises to the "service department" at Tri-Tronics. I might have to ask WHY WOULD THEY KNOW THAT? Unless they've had their collars crap out on them and had to send them back. Hmmmmm?
Just trying to add some more confusion to your decision.

Tri Tronics is my pick.

The classic 70 4 dog is the unit I have now.
There water proof and very reliable.
I have seen the new g2's and there nice as well.

I have had or used most all of them, dogtra, innotec, etc.

Tri Tronics seem to work best for me. If they made a better collar I would have it.

Huntsman27,

Sometimes your posts strike me as if your trying to start an argument.
I train my young dogs with a shock collar, with all intentions that once they are finished I will no longer need a collar. You will never see me put a collar on one of my finished dogs.

Labs and beagles are two totally differant animals.

I have the new G2 models. The first ones I got went bad in a month. Mailed me new ones, no questions asked, with a prepaid shipper. Had these 4 months and work just fine. I love dthe size of the G2s, especially on beagles. I wouldn't hesitant to do business with them again.

   Ya, imagine that!.....I can say from personal experience that their(tritronics) service is good........especially after 2, 3, 4, or 5 times! I have had my dogtra 2 + years, only used their service once......I ran over my transmitter with the four wheeler.......I expected to pay cuz it was a demo collar and out of warranty as well.......fixed it and sent it back for free! My tritronic service issues were from the collar/transmitter itself and were not caused by anyone/anything!!!
My 2 cents~
