Went coyote hunting for the first time this weekend and what a blast!!! Never expected to see one, let alone actually bagging one my first time out. I ended up shooting a male that weighed in at 36 pounds. I don't know if that is big as far as yotes go,but it seemed big for me. Its fur was in really good shape. This one is going to get mounted and get added to the rest of my outdoor collection. I don't think the wife is real happy, now I have found something to fill in my time between deer season and the fishing season.

Congrats!
How did you get him, calling, dogs?? Interested to hear the story.
Trying my luck tonight for the first time by calling and not electronically.
The wife is also not happy with my new hunting journey. But with no ice, I gotta do somethiing.

I got him by using an electronic call. My buddy had all the equipment. Spent all night Friday night using a locator call to try and find them. Located probably 4 or 5 different packs. Tried one spot where it seemed like they were really close by manually calling but no luck. Went back Saturday morning and set up off a two track where it split, I set where I could see one road and my buddy set where he could see the other. He put the speaker in between us. I got nestled under a pine tree with my 12 ga Mosseberg (using 3" T shot) and he started calling. We were not there but 5 minutes and he came trotting down my side of the two track about 60 yards away. He jumped on this mound of dirt to try and find this dying rabbit looking all around then jumped back off and started coming closer. He got about 25 yards away and I let him have it. Dropped him on the spot. Boy, talking about an adreniline rush!! It was about 8:00 am. Sunday morning we hunt a farmers field we got permission from and my brother missed one. He was on the wrong side of the fence!! Story of his life. With all this action you can see why I am hooked. I know its not going to be like that all the time, but what a first experience.

Outdooralex,
Great story, I'm glad to hear about your success.I've been trying to score on one for about three years know,I have come close but no shooting.I'll be heading north this weekend to see if I can call something in.I'll be useing a J.S caller and some mouth calls along with a couple different decoys.Think I might give the Alpena area a try.

Way to go! I am jealous. Haven't tried to hunt yotes yet but reading stories are making want to try BAD! I hear them from time to time around where I live, I was hearing them alot more about a year ago.

Outdooralex, You must be close. I live right on the west side of the park. I walk the dog in the park just about everyday. Didn't think the yotes were still around. I used to hear them every night and for the last six months or so, now I don't hear them much at all.

Actually the last time I heard them was this fall, Sept, or Oct. I was sleeping with my window open and they woke me out of a dead sleep. I live over off Barth rd and Hannan. Now that the snow is gone I'm going to wait for a full moon and hunt my property in London twp. Saw some fox tracks this weekend and the in-laws have beeing seein yotes in the area.

Just the other side of the park from you. I'm on Haggerty Rd about a mile north of Huron River DR.
