Yes Roger, you got that right, he is the man with the plan and will help anyone. Most people use the floating jig-head now a days in the mighty maumee including myslef, seems to generate more legal fish for me, several ways to do this, alot of people get fancy with the egg sinkers and all the fancy swivels but at the end of the day I find myself putting a good ole split shot on the line and doing a carolina rig, lol. Also use a heavyier main line and go down in pound test for your leader, that way if you get a ROCK fish alot of times you'll only loose your jig and not the whole thing. Outta town for a week so will post more when I get back, maybe ROGER can take over, lol, take care !!! Tim

Roger - not to confront your thoughts on Lowry, but you believe he speaks the truth at all times??? Sometimes business speaks better than fishing for him...just my .02
...Too aggrivating for me. I'll stick to the Reefs on the big lake!
Good Luck....try www.walleyerun.com - Better guys and can get good info on a multiple of places along the river shore!

Well to us who love the river good luck cause the run is coming and most of the people at the river are good people. Some people like river fishing, others dont have a choice !!!!

hello i have a few things to add. i catch 90% of my fish in the spring river run here in toledo, and a good 40% of them come from a little known place called the toledo edison coal plant discharge. i was just there last night and had a few on but because of a bad reel that would not give drag i lost all 5 of them but i have to say they are there,  just not real thick yet, just my 2 cents

I agree 100% with the good people. There are some regulars that fish below the rapids at Jerome Road that you get to know year to year. Its always nice seeing them out in the water by your side. BUT there are those couple guys that can really get the blood pumping. When I was younger and during college and could only fish the river - I was constantly there. Its a great fishery and a lot of fun...I wish the best of luck to you all...
PJC600 - You talking Bayhore PP???
too long of a drive to head out now. ill wait a couple weeks till it gets a little better. worst thing about going is having someone near you snagging. 2 years ago there were a group of about 5 guys, they were all snagging. it was shoulder to shoulder too. they would just throw a big lead jig out and jerk it all the way in with there poles under water. when they had a fish on they would act as if nothing was happening.

The best is when guys will reel them in with poles under water, reel the jig pretty much to the tip, stick there hands in the water almost elbow deep and fumble the walleye onto the stringer....amazing - every fish they caught was legal...LoL
OR another good one I saw years ago down at Orleans Park - guys would tie bright colored yarn to their nets so when they netted a fish, the eyes in the sky with the bonocs had a hard time making out the jig....
Hopefully we get some rain soon to raise the river and push a huge load of eyes up the river - if the water stays low like it is, we may not get a good amount of spawning eyes at our usual spots and Bayshore PP and Maumee Bay will be the ticket this year...

ya bay shore!!!!
was there again and i have to say i got skunked, but there was more than a few rolling in there hot bath. I went at night and it was way funny waist deep in watter and seeing glowing eyes 5 feet from u. eny way warmer temps mean lots of fish in the bay and they will stay there a while this year. and as far as bay shore goes you have to get them while they are there. but i would say a week and it fish on holy crap get the net!!!!!!!

:yeahthat: I've been working in the area for the last few days and the river looks like chocolate milk. Can't wait to fish it soon, I'm looking forward to trying the floating jig-heads this year. Are most of the guys wading out or fishing from shore?
BTW...Ohio Guys: What/where is Bayshore PP? Thanks!

Spent 2 hours in the maumee today, snagged 2 walleye in the tail and lost 2 that were probably snagged walleye also, bite is very slow !!! Talked to a guy who sells jigs at the river and he said the water temp was perfect at 48 degrees. I'm guessing it will be very soon now, didn't see any other fish today but all 4 fish came within 20 minutes of each other, then nothing !!! I'm told that the first batch of fish are from lake st.clair, (stubborn fish) hahahaha, will post more soon as I hear it. Tim

The mighty maumee is high and muddy, perfect for the run, when it goes down it should be full of fish or close to it. :)

ok, the bite is on, they say by tomorrow the risland will be wadeable, thats not a sure thing but my guess is it will be ok to wade to bluegrass island tomorrow, went yesterday myself and me and a friend snagged many fish, caught 1 legal one and it was a 9lb. 30'' male, beautiful fish !!!! As the water clears it should be great for biting walleye. Good luck all and come on down !!
