Well last Saturday Robert made his way to SW Lower Michigan with his famous Beagles. We got out about 8:30AM and the wind was howling. We jumped maybe one rabbit in the first hour, but we found that the open land we were hunting was scoured with coyote tracks. We ended up going into some tighter land with bigger downfalls and thick areas. We ended up shooting 7 rabbits with some great runs.
This is the first time I have actually seen the rabbit take off the dogs run for 20 minutes and here comes that rabbit right back to got shot. That was a real treat and I thank Rob for all his hard work. He didnt even get out his gun.
And if you want to ask him I never even missed!!!!:chillin: :dizzy:
Thanks a lot and we will have to do that again!!

Cool video link... that is neat... Stupid question from a bird dog guy... do you always have to go pick the rabbit up or do beagles ever retrieve it...
I know its a dumb question, but I have never hunted with beagles before.. looks like a blast...

I'm no expert after one hunt, but the beagles will certainly get the dead rabbit....but they won't wait for you to clean it, roll it in flour and fry it! They like it fresh!! ;)

I can recall two female beagles that a couple friends of mine had that would retrieve a rabbit when they were hunted alone.
But none of my animals ever did. I got to the rabbit first or there would be half-a-dozen hounds either chewing each other up, or playing tug-of-war over it.

Went with McCoys dogs a few years ago and they got to a rabbit before I could and the rabbit was in half and not very much left. Some of those dogs you have to get there quick!!!!!

Hey thanks for having us fella's it was a ton of fun even with the strong winds.
Cain't wait to do it again.
Yeah Dave your a heck of a good shot most of the time. But that rabbit running through that open field got by more than one person so you can't take all the blame.:yikes:
