View Full Version : 4WD not engaging
My 1995 Chevy's 4WD is not engaging for some reason. Can anyone recommend a reputable mechanic in the Ann Arbor area?

Neo,
My dad had this happen to him. Here is how to fix it. On the front axel there is a acuator switch it cost about 90.00.they sell an up grade, its a common problems in the 95 ,i replaced mine last winter. tell him with the up grade as soon as you shift lever it goes in 4 wheel,no waiting.it screws in axle its easy to change, they charged me 100.00 labor, you could do it in10 minutes,it is about 6 inches long has abig nut on out side and a wire plugs in to the end. Hope this helps.

Swat825,
Is 100% correct. I found out my accuator had gone south after pulling into soft sand in 2wd and stop and then decide to lock it in .
I'll try the local auto parts store and see what happens. Thanks for the info. I'll post my success (or lack of) later.

you will have to go to dealed to get actuator.
I went to a Chevy dealer and bought the actuator and wiring harness, now I have to figure out how it all goes in. There were no destructions provided. Not that I would look at them first but they come in handy when things don't go right. :D
I installed the new actuator and wiring harness this morning and VIOLA! Works like a charm. No waiting for 4x4 now, it is instant.
