Hi,
Here are the preliminary results for the year 2001:
Grand Total-59*
County-Total Positive or Suspect Deer
Alcona-23
Alpena-21
Crawford-1
Emmet-1
Montmorency-7
Oscoda-5
Presque Isle-1
We continue to receive samples from taxidermists and processors into March from 2001. And final results are pending on many of the above deer. I will post updates here and on bovineTB.com
2/26/02
I edited this post to reflect the suspect from Alpena that ended up being final negative. Now instead of 60 suspects and positive deer, there are now 59.

Morning Jean,,,,
Is it possible to tell me if any of those from Alpena were shot within say a 5 mile radius of Beaver Lake Rd and Bushey Rd???
I just started hunting that area this year, and all the talk in the watering holes around there is that
"There ain't no TB around this area, the DNR don't know what they're talkin bout!"
Please help to shed some light......
Thanks,
Mike

Hi,
There are no positive or suspect deer from within a 5 mile radius of the intersection of Beaver Lake Rd and Bushey Rd from the year 2001. This is preliminary. We continue to receive samples from the hunt into Feb and March.

Jean just wondering if you can break it down a bit more as how many came from the new 452 area and how many came out of dmu 001?? Also if you could give me the nearest positive near the southeast corner of alcona county.......Thanks.....marty:D

Hi Marty,
I just spoke with Dr. Schmitt about when the 2001 TB results for the new 452 and for DMU 001 will be available.
I will be able to post that sometime in March, probably just after the NRC meeting. We are still receiving loads of samples from the NE and still have quite a few suspects that we have not received final results for. Last year we received over 1,000 samples after Jan.1, 2001, from the 2000 fall hunt.

Hi Jean what I was looking for is how many deer tested positive from the 452 area compared to the other dmus like mine 001. Would like to see the location where these deer were taken if possible? It's not a secret is it??
Thanks.....marty:D

Hi Marty,
That information will be presented at the NRC meeting in March. I will be able to post it after that. We're still doing a lot of data cleanup, such as checking bad locations. And there are many suspects without final results yet. Everything will be final and summarized by March.

Hi,
The results of the fall's TB testing is being presented to the NRC tomorrow. I believe it is open to the public.
The results are also being presented to scientists from throughout the nation at a TB Workshop next week.
After that I'll see about putting the information on the web, here and on bovinetb.com

Hi,
There is an additional deer that has tested positive for TB from the 2001 hunt. It is a 3 yr old male from Alcona Co. 27N, 07E. Both medial retropharyngeal lymph nodes had multile abscesses.
This makes a total of 60 positive deer from 2001 and 24 from Alcona Co.
This is still preliminary as we are still waiting for final results on one of those 60.
