fished the canel by south channel yacht club. got a late start, a lot of guys when i got their. fishing very poor. the fish that were caught were very small with a few border line keepers here and their. moved down the road abit and caught a few dinks. used a lot of different baits, the one that brought the perch in was a red and white spoon with a red bead. some good sized perch came to the lure and were really flaring their gills (could see fish in very clear water even without shanty-about five feet) but only one or two hit. decided to put down minnows on a single hook and let them swim free. for the next hour it was none stop action, unfortunatly a lot of small ones with an occasional 8'' keeper. then they even quit and so did i. final count 12 8''s. ice ok but with these warm days be very careful.if anyone has more info for this area or around the island, would appreciate any and all help thank you.

I haven't bothered to check in awhile, but, is Harsens Island pretty much the only place with safe ice in LSC? Man, some winter this was. Oh well. The softwater season should rock!:) Gonna be softwater fishing in Mid-March! (that's me, I know some of you already are):woohoo1:

the ice is ok so far,we all know that could change real fast. but you are only fishing ten twenty feet from shore. but you still must be careful, if you feel uncomfortable DO NOT VENTURE OUT.

I did good on the island in the morning on big gills and crappies but I got there early. Fishing shut down after about 1 1/2 hours past daylight.

Gotta ask. Is it legal to use a spear for perch on Harsen's. I know Lake St Clair it's legal but where does is the line drawn when it comes to Harsens .

hey treeman, where did you find those crappie and gills. i went to a lot of canels without finding any of those beauties you caught. then again i got their late so that was probably the problem right there. congrats on those fish. on the spearing issue, i am sure your fishing regulations has some thing on spearing on harsens.

Caught the gills and the crappies at the south channel yacht club. Went again yesterday and the bite was off until I found just the right jig to turn em on. Lost it to about the 3rd or 4th fish. Could not get em going again after that. Fished from around 3:30 until 6 and left the ice with 15 nice fish. Other guys got a few. On another note, I drove past Fair Haven today and the ice was blowing out. There is some open water just off the launch site. Please be careful if venturing out in that direction.

Got enough perch for a meal today. Had to weed through them though.:D Couldn't catch a gill or crappie to save my soul today. Gotta be something about the way ficious holds his tongue or something. :p Always seem to catch them when I'm with Harry and fasteight. The man's gotta have gills or something. I know he can smell the fish ! Gonna have to take more lessons from him............soon.;)
