I am somewhat new here and I am looking for some property up north as a hunting/ summer and winter get away for the family. I was wondering what you can tell me about Scotts Lake. Im thinking about purchasing some land in that area close to the lake. What does that area offer for hunting (turkey, deer). Is scott lake a good fishing lake? Is it an all sports lake with lots of skiers and jet skis?? I am not real familair with specific area. Most of my time up there has been around torch lake and T.C. Anything you can tell me would be greatly apprciated.
Thanks,
Chad

I've been out of town, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
Scott's Lake is a fairly small lake located on Antrim County's northern portion of the Chain O Lakes. There is good land surrounding it, but most of the shoreline is wetlands. No public access that I'm aware of. Possibly a few cabins, I haven't been out there lately, but basically, Scotts Lake is a pothole lake with a very small trout stream that technically connects it to a wetlands that connects with Six Mile Lake, a much larger all sports lake. I'm not even sure that you could launch more than a rowboat or kayak on that lake. It's about 15 miles from East Jordan. You'd find bass, panfish on that lake, possibly a few walleye, but I never hear about anyone catching fish on that lake, again, access is an issue.
I certainly would take a good close look at the property and find out about the laws regarding removing vegetation, filling wetlands, etc., before I bought any property on that lake.

Would there be any good duck/geese hunting on this lake?? How about deer hunting in the area?? I not looking for all the busyness of an "all sports" lake so this sounds like a positive to me. No public access is even better. I more used to T.C. and Torch lake. Im looking for something a little more "quiet" and peaceful. Is there anything else you can tell me about the area in general??
Thanks.

Yes, there's deer, there's deer everywhere, but Antrim County wasn't noted as one of the better harvest areas last fall. Lots of bowhunters, deer go nocturnal by the time firearms season arrives.
You'd have to have a big field with a freshly harvested crop for goose hunting here, there aren't a lot of geese in this area, and most of what there are go to the best fields in the area, mostly big cut-corn fields.
Ducks, yes, probably wood ducks if the season starts early enough, the lake is small enough and wooded enough all the way around to support some pretty good populations. There's a few mallards around, too, but not as many as we've had in previous years. I'm not sure a lake that small would see many divers, and it would freeze pretty early.
There's turkeys in that area, too. We feed about a hundred in that area every winter.
