Question how eazy does the Universal Tow Hitch unhook from a Fish Trap? Or does it stay right on all the time? Looking to get one but my Fish trap needs to still fit in my truck with my tauno cover on so I would need to remove it easy. Plus I don't always take a sled or Quad to pull it. Any help would be great thanks.

If you get a clam brand hitch, you remove the 2 lynch pins and it comes off. You have to put on the brackets yourself. I made my own hitch. Go to clam corp and look up manuals, they show you what it looks like !! A little 1" conduit, flat steel and some bolts and voila' a hitch.oh and a couple springs.

Same here, I bought conduit from home depot, 2 eyebolts and 2 pins. And frabricated my own. Flattened down the ends with a 4# hammer, bend here bend there, done in an hour. Worked great on Burt lake that weekend. Comes off in 2 seconds.

Couldn't find any lynch pins at Home Depot today,,, bought 2 of those "caribiner(sp) rings" instead,,, voila. I think their better than the lynch pins.

Been using a home-made hitch similar to this for years... cheap, durable, and quick.

Use a little imagination and you will be suprised at what can be designed and fabricate for much less than retail cost.

I also used the plates and nuts on both sides, figured it would add some strength to the "U" bolts were it mounted. Using two, I space them about 1/2 inch apart, the conduit fits between them, using a 2" hitch pin with spring clip allows ample movement and no binding!

I thought about u-bolts, but decided with eyebolts. Drilled holes in the conduit and the very end. So it could pivot up and down easier and also pivot more.
