Well this might turn out to be a long thread, but I will do my best to keep it short. Thursday night of last week, 2 buddies and myself took off for Wisconsin. Loaded with 5 poles and 3 tip ups, a tip-up, and a bottle of our favorite adult beverage, we went west to Wisconsin. We arrived to the motel at 2am Friday morning in Beaver Dam,WI, only to find that we didn't have heat in the motel. We made the best of the evening and brought our portable propane heater into the room. We woke up frozen, only to find come to the realization that we picked the worst weekend of all to go ice fishing. The high temprature that day was around 10 with winds somewhere in the -20 range. We went out on the Fox Lake armed with minnows and waxies. Spent a good 2 hours out on the first lake with not as much as a bite. We decided since no one else was around that we would switch lakes. We hopped on the road toward Lake Emily where we realized the temprature was dropping at a rapid rate. Got on the ice, drilled the holes, and waited. After 2 hours our tip up finally went off and up we pulled a 28.5 inch pike. With the temps the way they were, the ice froze that fish pretty quickly. We headed back to the shanty and waited for the next tip up which was about 20 minutes later. We had another pike on, about 15 inches. That concluded the fish catching that we had... By 6pm we were off the ice b/c we had about as much of the cold as we had. We looked loaded up the car and noticed it was -2 (real temp). We thawed out after 4 hours and went back to the room where we still didn't have heat. We up and left that motel and I've never been happier to hit a Best Western in my life. We woke up the next morning to a -15 temprature with a pop can that exploded in the car an ingition that was frozen stuck. The key went in but didn't move at all... We were thinking that the worst realization that we weren't leaving WI anytime soon. A quick call to a family member and a whack with a shoe a few times the car finally started.

Anyway, we decided that the temps were too much and we took off. Despite the cold, only two fish, and a car that didn't work, we are already planning our next trip. It was well worth all the driving, frostbite, and experiences. I can't wait for next year...

Sounds like fun. Nothing like fishing in those subzero temps.

Sounds like fun. This last weekend it was 2 above when we were out without the windchill. We caught a pike and only a few minutes later i dropped it carrying it back to the shanty and the tail pretty much shattered. It was a fun time though. Nice pike by the way.

Why is it that some of the biggest hardships make for the best memories? Happens.
