The smelt fishing on Green Lake from the launch out of Karlin was exceptional on Friday night. We had over 200 fish between 4 of us with the two other guys taking around 30 or so and myself and the brother in law taking the rest. We were using a Q beam light about 6ft. down fishing just below the light. We did have an advantage over the other two guys and that was the smelt rigs consisting of 10 #14 hooks tied to a tag, plus a hali jig on the bottom. We had white spikes, red spikes and wax worms with most fish coming on the red spikes. The fishing was consistent and only slowed for a few minutes at a time and we were still catching fish when we left at mid night. I also got to meet Kid in the Ranger. Nice meeting you that cold night, I should have offered you a beer but was too focused to catch fish. Over all it was a nice weekend to get outside. Good luck to everyone. Smelt, New York strips and a baked potato make a fine meal.
