Here's a pic from yesterday of one of two gills(both same size) that I got. It was a negitive bite but I did manage to get a couple of nice ones. One was on the purple /black back and the other was on chart. green. I saw many fish bigger. I'm happy with my results. It's not how many but that you go home happy.

Nice gill's bhorn, I usually have good luck with purple/black or red/black on tough days barometric pressure was very high yesterday.

I would love to get my hands on some of them jigs, they look pretty similar to the fiskas wolfgrams and alot cheaper. Is the only way on-line or does someone have them in stock?

Go to little-atom. I would call and order. I think stock is low because the jigs went fast. I don't have a clue when the ones that are out of stock are going to be in. The guys name is Rick and he is a nice guy to talk with.

I talked to Rick the other day, and he said that you can order the size 12 optic stealth jigs online. The other sizes are sold out and it might take a couple of months to get his new improved jigs in stock. I'll try and get them into the G.M. in Flint for next season. I also love these jigs. I use them all the time.

I checked these stealths' out,, they look nice, but do they fish a lil' heavy for their size? I don't like using a splitshot, so I like a little heavier jig. One thing I didn't really like was that they're horizontal jigs,,, never been a big fan of them, seems like my hook up rate is A LOT WORSE with horizontal than vertical,,, anyone else have this problem?

Yes...when I am watching, I see that sometimes they are trying
to suck in the wrong side or come in fast and miss it.
I still use them from time to time since it is easier for me to
see the solid color in the hole as it gets darker and take
it away from the little ones.
As long as I can watch and see it, I can usually up my hooking percentage.

Interesting topic guys, I personally use horizonal teardrops at least 90% of the time. I think you get better hookups with horizonal lures over vertical lures.

It really depends upon how deep you are fishing. I use the size 10 optic stealth jigs. They weigh about 1/28 oz. I use them on 2 pound test. Most of the fishing that I do is 6ft to 15 ft. If you need a heavier jig in a small head size, consider using the wolfgram jigs from Your Bobbers Down http://www.yourbobbersdown.com/. They are made from tungsten and fish heavy for a small bait. I don't have too much of a problem with hookups with horizontal jigs. I use a very sensitive spring bobber and rod. I have noticed that the big bluegills will suck in the bait and if I wasn't sight fishing, I would have never noticed that they bit. It's easier to keep the jig moving and the gills will attack it. This also keeps the jig from spinning around in circles. Just keep jigging it and trying to keep it at the same depth. Just tap the rod with your finger and that does the trick.

I use a sensitive bobber as well,, so sensitive that 2 spikes or a wiggler will move the bobber. When I used to have an Aqua-vu, I watched all kinds of fish actually taking the bait,, they can't even breathe on it without the bobber moving. Thought I was missing bites,, after watching it,, I knew I wasn't. To be honest,, I don't think I've EVER caught a gill while constantly twitching the or tapping the jig, they seem to all hit right when ya stop. Maybe I'll try the Stealths next year and see how they do.

Alright, after doing a lil' research over the last 2 HOURS,,,!!!! I've found out that black jigs are not a real popular color among ANY jig companies. So here's my question, is black just a personal preference as far as color or are conditions dictating, that you try "black"? Horn,, I noticed in both pics, the sun seemed to be out and shining bright. My "go to" color always seems to be some sort of chartreuse/orange, seems to never fail regardless of the conditions. I have 1000 jigs and I use 4 of them, LOL. So what's the deal with "black jigs"? Another thing Horn,, do you keep those gills or chuck 'em back,,from the pic the body of water seemed quite vast and could possibly handle keeping a few of those. Just curious.

I don't keep them. CPR I keep fish about once or twice a year and there normally perch or something that won't live on release. As far as color purple/black back was the go to jig today. Little atoms red/ black back is another one. Usually dark colors for negative fish, not aways but usually. I put on the tackle box today trying to get more fish but I just had a lot of lookers. Two biggin is OK though.:)

Nice pics bhorn thanks !!!!!!!!!! Tom did you say that H word again  Sometimes I tie a direct knot to a vertical jig and kick the knot to the side and it becomes Horizonal just a little tip a rue.

Nice fish again bhorn, don't mean to turn your thread into a vertical vs horizonal thing. I slaped some good gill's the last three times out on the 3mm red/black dots wolfgrams:p . The damn pike have took all my wolfgrams I started with this year (about 30) oh well:gaga: I guess it's back to the #14 marmooshka's and ratfinkee's. I always tie direct, and always reset my knot after every fish or missed fish;)

Amen to that. I've taken to tieing my Horizontals with nothing but loop knots now. Is that what you guys do too?

After being on Wolframs site, I'm thinkin' about it. I kinda like those Wolframs, their not a "true" horizontal,, kind of an "angle", which I like.

I think the action of a loop knot will greatly increase your catch rate with a horizontal.

Little Atom and wolfram rock...but thats our little secret Ok guys :)

I never tried a loop knot with a horizonal teardrop Scotty, I always just tie a improved clinch knot and reposition the knot after each fish or missed fish to make sure the lure is as horizonal as possible before sending it back down. As far as I'm concerned the wolfgrams in 3mm and 4mm are the best horizonal's made for gill's. I notice I can get a much tighter pound due to the heavier tungsten over lead. William H bonney, I catch about 95% of my fish while pounding the jig, I rarely quit pounding the jig. Sometimes pounding the jig down to the fish and back up slowly at the same time swimming it across the hole from one side to the other, just depends on the day. I have never tried the little atoms, my guess would be close to the marmooshkas. You can do things with the small wolfgrams you can't do with other teardrops of the same size.

You nailed it Scotty, loopty loo I use the loop it mostly depends on the mood the fish are in. With a loop knot the line dosen't twist like a direct knot.

I just us a fas-snap for all my jigs, vertical or horizontal, and the fish don't seem to mind at all. My freezer is full. :D
