Haven't had a chance to ice fish at all this year. Got a chance to get out later this afternoon. Can you guys give me some ice reports for Washtenaw county?

For wastenaw but here in jackson and Hillsdale all of the lakes are open

The wind and rain killed it.

I live on a 200 acre lake near the corners of Jackson, Lenawaee and Hillsdale and we have only skim ice on a few cannels

I think Ice fishing is over down here

I'm afraid I have no positive info on this thread, but I do want to subscribe to it. :)

If you get down by the launch at Whitmore or take a ride over by Indy, can you let me know how things are looking! Or better yet, see if the ice is holding ya? It was 3 degrees when I got up at 6:30 this morning, and if it holds, things have got to tighten up! If I get out that way, I'll post findings,Thanks!

Will do. I plan on scouting Indy later this afternoon. Most of Whitmore Lake is still open.

I myself will wait 'til mid-week to hit my lake. Don't wanna jump the gun fishing in 20-25 feet of water...

Good news Ricky, Indy is definitely fishable. Just to be clear, you did say you own a hovercraft didn't you?

Hi Ricky,

As of yesterday afternoon there was still a lot of open water on Whitmore.

Haven't been to Indy since the weekend, but I was thinking about spudding around there tomorrow morning before I head into work since it's on my way. I'll let you know what I find out. It just blows my mind that we're in the last week of February and we're still looking for safe ice. :dizzy:

Ricky,

As of this morning, Independence Lake is once again completely frozen.

The "old ice" extends to the outter edge of the first major row of reeds and appears to be around 4" thick. The new ice beyond appears to be around 2" thick. Looks like someone finally got the nerve up to go retrieve that sunfish sailboat stranded out there.

Anyhow, who knows what today and tomorrow's highs of around 40 will. Doesn't look like rain is in the forecast some I'm sure that bodes well. Probably will be a-ok this weekend. enjoy.

Was at Indy about 3:30 this afternoon, only to find a few other die hearts goin at it! Had some real nice size schools of gills comin in, but lock jaw was a serious problem this evening! Threw everything at them, (except spears), was only able to pull a half dozen out and a nice northen. Mr. P, you were right on with a excellent ice report! Thank You! When we pulled out at 6:30. the top two was seriously honeycombed! The clear under two was still hard, but as we got closer to the lauch, the shore ice was "shaky" at best, but I stayed dry! If we get more wind and strong sunshine on Thursday, it"s gonna be a tough sell> Need clouds, no wind, and some low temps for sure! Other lake info: Four Mile, was being fished, "ice Shaky at best" South Lake, soild and very tight at launch, unable to get to any type of depth in front of launch, had another lake out by Mr.P but the name escapes me at the moment, but was told the ice was "not safe" Gonna give it a go on early Sat morning, will report back, or hope to see ya out on the hard water and dry!:)

Fished 2 smaller lakes this PM just north of the Washtenaw county line. Both lakes had 7-8". Both had an inch of slush on top...Fishing slow this evening with only 8 crappies between 9-11" caught. Fish were 11-14 feet down in 23 feet of water but didn't light up the Vex like they normally do...More cold coming this weekend so my wishes of "one more week of ice" will hold true...

Hey Connor, what lakes out that way had ice? I'm considering heading out that way by myself this weekend and would rather fish on some thicker ice.
PM me if you don't want to broadcast it out, or narrow down the location a bit for us non-map challenged individuals.....
Thanks.
