Have no idea about today, but there still should still be some good ice.
Was out there Wednesday and in front of beach there was 8 to 10 inches of white ice depending on where the hole was drilled. There was also an old crack which had seperated the sheets of ice. The crack was froze over with thicknesses of 2 to 6 inches of clear ice.
Unless some miracle happens on LSC I will give some serious thought to going out to Stoney on Monday.

I was out there with a friend yesterday afternoon so it was probably us. The fishing was VERY slow yesterday. Slowest day of the year for me out there. We only used tip ups so I can't comment on the panfish. But based on past experience most of the gills and perch max out at about 6". We had many drops, the fish seemed really finicky for some reason, but did manage a couple of decent sized fish. The larger of the two was a 19" LM. There are some decent crappie IF you can find them.

the pike fishery at stoney is rediculose but the fish seem smaller this year than last with a lot of hammer handles comming through the ice crappies have been slow with one to two fish a night over 13 very slow the perch fishing doesnt exist for keeper being that ive only seen one come out of their over 3 inches walleye well hard to get on but did manage one this year and heard of at least 5 others being taken though the largst was only 3lbs catfish have also been coming through the ice this year theve been getting them on large shiners suspended off the bottom hope this sums up stoney for everyone

If you are talking about the north side of the north dam at the main lake then yes. This has often been referred to as the "middle lake". If you mean north of 28 mile then no, you are not supposed to fish north of 28 mile as it is a nature preserve area and no fishing is allowed there. The "middle lake" is plentiful with bluegills but they are extremely tiny (can catch tons of 4"). There are pike in there and you can get some flags going off but I have never caught any with much size. Just over legal size was what I caught there. Don't bother buying pike bait, just catch a small bluegill and use that on your tip up.

Yep, same as walleye mike. Small bluegill, small perch. No difference. Saves having to buy pike minnows.

Went out with Big Bob and it was not stop action from the time we got there until we left. I stopped counting at 176 and that was two hours before we left. All those Perch and only one keeper. I also caught a 18" Walleye that hit on a Marmasooaka with a spike as bait. I threw on a spoon and Rapala and only caught more dink Perch.
Have to admit it was the best 6 hours on ice I have spent all season. To all those who are still waiting find a ditch or pond and get out, drill a hole and drop a line.

Ice was around 8" over most of the areas we fished but some cracks opened up with all the wind we had and water was sitting on top of the ice.

I would have thought with all the nasty cold weather we had it would have been froze up solid. I might head up there today to give it a try, any tips??

Hey Sturge...not looking for your spots but were you guys fishing the main lake between the beaches?? I plan to head out there in the next day or two and was wondering about the ice. I would think the main channel would be a little shakey still but I have not been out there in a while. I have a spot or two that has produced some decent pike fishing in the past but it is a little deeper and close to the channel. Thanks for any info!!

Sat. the south end of the lake was open water and in front of the beach it was open. From mid lake it was not ice I wanted to try. We walked out and swung a large arc to get off the Point in front of the Beach.
Hope that helps.

Yep, same as walleye mike. Small bluegill, small perch. No difference. Saves having to buy pike minnows.
Reason I asked is that I have been seeing so many recommendations saying to use bluegill. I was starting to think that nobody used perch any more.

I did not get a chance to fish it today but passed by and did see a few guys out. Saw a couple guys walking toward the north end across where the channel flows. I would think that would be a little scary still. Checked the ice out in the bay by the boat rental and it seemed ok. Shore ice might be a problem soon though as it was getting a little shakey this morning. Planning on trying there or Pontiac in the morning.

Was there today. Fished off of baypoint beach. Caught loads of small perch, and a few small bluegill, and missed a big fish dont know what it was. Did end up with 5 keepers 2 perch 3 bluegill. Let them all go it was not worth getting everything dirty for them. Ice was 7 to 8 inches and melting. it will probly be tought to get out on the ice tommrow. Fishing in 10 ft. of water.

Stopped by and checked shore ice today. It was in better shape than I expected. No problem getting on today at the beach. May give it a shot in the morning w/out the shanty. Wind gust to 35mph.
