Because of the lack of a deep freeze, there are waters available to me where I have fished pike for years that, for the first time, aren't iced over yet (if it is even going to happen this year). What I am wondering is if pike do any migrating from fall to winter or if they still frequent the same areas.

Just remember that even thought the water is open, the big pike will not really want to chase baits. Fish slow and near the bottom. Either live or dead bait hung a foot off the bottom has worked best for me.

Fish for them near to where they will start to spawn, river mouths, creek mouths and swampy areas. That has always worked well for me late in the season.

We had some luck two weeks ago fishing in a canoe. One hit an xrap, the other one hit a jointed shad-rap. Twitching and pausing. Good luck!
