Just got back from the Feed store to buy some Minerals for my property. Bought some 50# bags of Trace Mineral Salt and di-Calcium-Phospate for the sites. The Mineral Salt for attraction and the di-Calcium for nutrition and antler growth. Anyone else putting out minerals now 'cause of the mild weather?

So what is the law on minerals?
Boehr said last year that minerals fall under "bait"
Meaning that you can only put them out Oct. 1st to Jan. 1st.
Who knows the ruling on this??????????

If i were to put out minerals it would be at the beginning of april and 1 recharge may 1st. If I were to put mineral out it would be to help the lactating does and the bucks beginning there antler development. If i were to put out mineral it would be purinas deer mineral blend with about 5 lbs of watersoftner rock salt add for flavour. If i did thats what i would do.:evilsmile

I talked to the owner of Kent Feed in Holland and he mentioned that Purina products are very good. They have like 15% protien with many other vitamins and minerals added. He also said the most important factor for minerals is that the deer can digest them. Trace Mineral Salts are more beneficial than other salt products that just promote unhealthy water/ weight gain.

I think the only "legal" method of using minerals prior to Oct. 1 would be under the Recreational Vewing law.
From the DNR website:
Recreational Viewing
In Alcona, Alpena, Crawford, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego, and Presque Isle counties:
All feeding is prohibited. In the remainder of the state (deer and elk):
The volume of feed at any residence cannot exceed two gallons.
The feed must be scattered or dispersed at least 100 yards from any area accessible to cattle, goats, sheep, new world camelids, bison, swine, horses, or captive cervidae and no more than 100 yards from a residence on land owned or possessed by that person.
The feed must be scattered on the ground. It can be scattered by any means, including mechanical spin-cast feeders, provided that the spin-cast feeder does not distribute more than the maximum daily volume allowed.
Any type of food material can be used.
Food plots, naturally occurring foods, standing agricultural crops, or food placed as a result of using normal agricultural practices are not considered to be feeding.

The law is as stated. But as long as you aren't hunting over them in the spring it's extremely unlikely that you will have any problems with the law. Of course if your hobby is annoying COs your mileage may vary.:)
