This happened last winter. While opening the door to take delievery of a package. The wifes pet bird Ivan escaped. Well this was a real bummer. She came rushing home and we tried all day to coax him out of the trees, but he was enjoying his new found freedom. That night it snowed and single digit temps. Didn't think he'd make it, but in the morning there he was. We followed him to park and tried with no results to coax him down. Then a falcon I believe landed in the tree beside him. Seeing this could get ugly we tried to scare off the hunter. Ivan decided to make a break for it. Unfortunately he knew nothing about evasive flying maneuvers. The falcon hit him in the back with his talons and picked Ivan out of the air. Ivan attacked back causing both birds to fall to ground 20yds in front of us. I ran over and kicked at the falcon with wings stretched hissing like mad at me. The falcon tried again to fly away with Ivan but Ivan fought bravely and the bigger bird dropped him. Ivan died from the injuries and the wife didn't think that it was as interesting to watch as I did. But it was pretty cool to watch the hunter flush and attack. Just a story for a boring night at work.

Most people will only see something like that on the Nature Channel. I'm sure that you and your wife have many other more light-hearted memories of your bird.
