I hunt an area where a food "plot" isn't an option. But I started thinking about planting a tree or 2. Like a Beech Nut tree or Hazel Nut, maybe Butternut? Anyone ever considered this or tried it?

Beech trees are more bird and squirel food then whitetail food due to the small size of the nuts however on bumper crop years the deer will make the effort and love the sweet nut. Walnuts have a shell that is impossible for whitetails to break and get to the meat, strickly small game food. Hazelnut is a good choice but oaks American/Chinesee hybrids or chinesee chestnut is the best option for whitetails. Some hybrid oaks can produce in 4-8 years and chestnuts only take about 5 years.
