Deer information meeting Feb. 8
IRON MOUNTAIN— The public is invited to attend the second annual “Deer Information Meeting”, scheduled for Feb. 8 at the Premiere Center in Iron Mountain.
The free seminar will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is being hosted by Northwoods Wilderness Outfitters, Whispering Pines Outpost, The Outdoors Show, and Wildlife Unlimited of Dickinson County.
The seminar, is being conducted to share information and identify concerns between sportspersons/deer hunters and Michigan Department of Natural Resources personnel.
DNR biologists Bob Doepker, Craig Albright, and Doug Wagner will be present to offer brief presentations, in addition to a Michigan conservation officer also being available to answer questions pertaining to hunting rules and regulations.
Discussions will include the 2005 Deer Camp surveys, habitat, timber harvest, winter severity and impacts on whitetail deer, along with highlights of the proposed five-year deer goals for the Upper Peninsula.
This seminar is designed as an interactive information-sharing meeting and will include ample time for questions and answers.
Special guest speaker John Ozoga will discuss whitetail deer and provide his perspective on Quality Deer Management in the U.P.
Ozoga has extensive experience in whitetail deer research and will join the meeting, weather permitting.
