Rolled into the parking lot about 9:30 AM and there were 10 vehicals at the State parking lot. Ice was a creakin and a cracking with about 3 1/2 inches give or take. There was also open water to the South West of me so I was a little cautious. I won't be back ,unless we get a major deep freeze up.
Had 7 pike that were viewed from the shack, of those 7 , one was a decent 34-36 incher that just didn't give me the shot I wanted. Nothing came in close to the decoy after that other than a small 20 incher . Never got a flag on the tip-ups either  . they must be doing ok on all the dink blue gills, because I'm having very little luck with the tip-ups .

Mule Skinner, thanks for the report! I have been dieing to get back out that way to be able to fish. Going to drive out that way on Saturday and look at some of the early and late spots that I usually hit. Not really figuring on finding too much good ice, but my 16-year old daughter needs drive time for her permit and she hasn't had much E-way driving so she is going to drive me around all day and rack up the hours. I don't know if any of you guys have had to teach a daughter to drive, but all I can say is, pray for me!:)

Thanks for the report Tom. Damn - I would have thought that you would tear em up...What type of bait where you using on the tip-ups? We found last year that the golden shiners in the 4-5 inch range that you can get at Knutsons outfished any other bait we threw down the hole by a vast amount.
JimHX - My thoughts and prayers are out for you this weekend, but let us know what ya see this weekend, although I doubt it is going to be news we want to hear...

2 weeks ago, I had 2 tip-ups tipped with a golden shinner on each, and never got a flag, yet viewed a few pike from the spearing hole in the shack,so they were in the area cruzin, just not feedin on what I had to offer
1 week ago, didn't set up the shack ,just put 2 tip-ups out, 1 with a sucker minnow and the other with a large dead herring on a swedish hook and put it on the bottom. got to flags on the dead bait set-up, first was a wind trip, the next was a fish that took off a lot of line from the reel, lost that one
Yesterday,I used a sucker on one and the same dead bait set up on the other.once again, viewed several pike from the hole w/no flags.
This was all out in front of the State park in about 12-16 foot of water with good weeds.
I'll have to give the golden shinners a try again, I know they produced for us last year out in front of Jerry's

With nice weeds like you said, thats odd that nothing produced for you yesterday - I thought for sure you would have got into some action. Do you know if you were fishing near a ledge or drop-off to that 16-18 FOW??? We seemed to have good luck with tip-ups on the top of the shelf(shallow 5-8FOW) and then jig some pike up in the 18-21 FOW out in front of Jerrys, but it may be a totally different world over by the State Park. Never got a chance last year to run over there and mess around. Have you ever tried spearing in shallower water like 6-10 FOW??? I hope we get a deep freeze soon, would like to hang out and watch ya spear something!
I am assuming nobody was out on front of Jerrys fishing yesterday?
