Are you are referring to Torch Lake in Antrim county? It has the most volume of water of any inland lake in Michigan. It has a long way to go before any substantial ice will develop. Most years we can get on it in mid to late February. With each passing day of winter it becomes more and more likely that it may not happen this year.

For most, ice fishing Torch lake is primarily for whitefish, burbot, and the occasional laker.

And not likely to happen at all this year, unless we get incredibly cold temps for the next 4 weeks or so...

Thank you for the updates. I am new to this ice formation stuff. I just would like to ice fish this year. :) Thanks again.

There are lakes in the Torch lake area with ice. I see shanties on Clam, Intermediate and Bellaire.
