I was wondering what kind of lights you use under the ice. Heading up to Higgins this weekend. Also, do you know where I can get one in the Lansing area? Thanks.

I bought a tail light socket that accepts a regular bulb that has turn signal and tail light combined. I ran one lead to the ground and one to the wires that came off the socket. I used low voltage 16 guage wire like you use in landscape lights. Put in the bulb, attach a sinker to hold the light under the water and drop in the water to whatever depth you want or have wire for. I usually go down to about 10 feet. Then turn it on/hook it up to the battery. I have mine hooked up to a regular house outlet so I can unplug it when I am done. [B]Important!!![B] Put the light into the water BEFORE you turn it on or it will pop. After the bulb is in the water you can turn it on without a problem. Bring extra bulbs The whole thing can be made in less than 20 minutes for less than five bucks with the extra bulb. Experiment with how deep you put it down. We have had luck from just under the ice to down about 20 feet. Keep the lite still while fishing as fish move away when it is moving.

Thanks.Any of the bait shops around Higgins or even Houghton Lake will have them, they cost about twenty bucks. I've also seen people take a glass/plastic head light (*sealed beam), wire it to a battery float it in a seperate hole than they're fishing and use that. Cheap and easy if your mechanicly inclined! ;)

BTW - Yes, always put it in the water before you plug it in! As well, unplug it before you take it out!
