I live in Ohio and buy a recreation sticker every year in Mi when ice fishing higgins and houghton lake. My question is, can I legally ride the atv on any impoundment or lake in Mi. ? Or is there certain lakes that allow or what >.,

Thanks and good ice to all !! Mike

Any lake as long as you got legal access. Make sure you got a helmet.

If your gonna be in Houghton Lake stop by the "M-18 supply". They're right on the corner of M-55 and M-18 in Prudenville. They've got some great prices on helmets! :)

Other than that start hittin the garage sales! ;)

It seems like the big drawback to using a quad to get on and off the ice is the fact that you "legally" cannot have a passenger...correct?

What does everyone do that has more than 1 in their fishing party (using a quad to transport) and the distance to the fishing location is too far to have people walk out?

The law says that you can only have one person on the atv unless the atv is designed for two, but there is no law on how many people you can have on a sled or trailer behind the atv.:)

JL Have them ride on a sled or trailer being pulled by the quad :) ............

BTW - Looked at that two-up Arctic Cat quad last weekend at Spicer's in HL, Nice!!!!!!!!! but it should be for the price!!!!!

I used a small trailer bought from Harbor Freight last year to haul my quad to the fishing area and then used the same trailer to haul out the gear and 2 buddies. It worked great on Saginaw bay the first time out but it sucked on the bay when we got lotsa snow. Used my new Clam Yukon to transport my BIL this year on Houghton lake 2 w/e ago. I asked at the bait store if the DNR was strict about the 2 riders on the atv and he stated as long as they both had helmets they were being lenient. I saw 4 different vehicles (atv's and snowmobiles) go out and none had helmets.

Passengers are allowed in a sled pulled by an atv. Amazingly, no helmet required.
