Since mother nature has not been kind this season, I still have most of the waxies and mousies I purchased in late November.
I also picked up a 100/pack of "mixed eurolarvae" from Cabelas. Looks just like spikes...
Anyhow, this morning I realized it's been almost a week since I looked over my bait to pick out the dead ones so I ventured down to the basement. The waxies and mousies were fine, but the container of eurolarvae was replaced by a container of very lively flies! Yikes, I guess my crawlspace has been warmer than what I thought it would be...
Anyone else have any hatches this season because they haven't got a chance to use their bait?

Thanks, yeah, I'll have to hide them in crisper next time -- my wife does not care too much for me storing bait in our fridge. Telling her "get over it" has not worked well so far. :)
I was at a Dunhams downstate that had lots of unrefrigerated flies for sale.:D

I had a chew tin full of spikes from last winter, and when I opened the tin for the first time this winter, I found about twenty dead flies laying in the tin. My brother claimed that he found spikes in his tin from march of last year, and they were still in the larvae state in june. If you keep them refrigerated, they'll last forever.

Late last ice season i went into a local bait shop to get some spikes. Well...they were flies with a few spikes mixed in. The bait shop guy let me have all of the spikes/flies for like 2 bucks!!! probably over 100 good spikes there too!!

Last year I tossed some loose waxies in my garbage can in my bedroom, thought they were dead. Few days later I found out they weren't...bzzzzzzzzz

Keep them in the fridge so they can sleep only wake them up when you need them.
