The closest baitshop to me (that I know of) is in Crystal.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a bait shop that is closer to the Lansing (St.Johns/Dewitt) area?

A lot of the gas stations and meijer carry waxworms, but I am looking for minnows if possible.

Thanks!

Ovid Auto Parts on M-21 a little past Main St. in Ovid has minnows. Not a huge selection, but they're there.

there is a little store on M-21 going west into St.Johns. It's right across the street from Speedway when you are coming into St.John's from Ovid. I believe it is called "The Country Store". They have speck minnows and Pike minnows as well as wax worms.
Hope this helps.

Grand River bait and tackle is still there on larch and grand river. You can also get whatever you need at Dons Party Store on Round lake rd about 7 miles east of Dewitt. Yes the Country Store in St. Johns also has some bait......

Definitely can't forget Grand River. Wayne has quite a selection of gear - I have tried to dicker him down on a few items and he doesn't budge - basically he never puts anything on sale and always increases his inventory - but by doing so, he has everything an ice fisherman could need. Also, he generally has pretty decent looking help :yikes:

Sportsmans Supply in Maple Rapids has bait and everything else, but call to find out hours and don't expect any great deals.

Thanks again for the great info guys. I looked up Bait in the yellow pages but was a little unsure when I saw auto-shops and such.

What do you guys do with minnows when you are done fishing and know you won't be out for a while? I can't really store them in my apartment, but I thought I heard somewhere that they don't want you to dump them in the lake? Is that true? I figured I'd ask rather than screw something up :)

Yes and no?

I grew up between SJ and Dewitt, moved away for college and recently moved back into SJ.

I know lots of places to get NightCrawlers/worms and wax worms, but have just started fishing with minnows this winter. That's why I don't know who carries minnows and whatnot in the area.

Don't worry guys, I'm starting to get up to speed. I promise all the newbie questions will stop soon! :)
