Ice on Mitchell/ Cadillac lake area

I plan on hedding up to the area to do some ice fishing this weekend (1-28). Does anyone have any info on the ice conditions or fishing reports?

My sons and I fished both Mitchell and Cadillac last weekend and the ice was anywhere from 6 to 8 inches. Plenty of snowmobiles on the ice and one plane landed and took off twice. Didn't find the fish though, but atleast we're fishin. Good luck.

Ice is good, fishing was slow, caught a bunch of dinks on Sunday. I haven't heard anything promising out of Mitchell or Caddilac in a good long while.

I'll be going up on Thrusday night and fishing all day Friday and possibly Sat. morning. Who else is from around that way or going to be up there?

Here's a thought, you might call up to Ellis resort, just bout 30 some miles northwest of Cadillac. They have what amounts to a private lake there that has plenty of specs and pike , and the lodging is affordable. They should have the same ice as Cadillac. If I would have thought of it I would have tried there last weekend. Call them, can't hurt.

Im gonna be there fishing Sunday and Monday. Just wondering if the ice is safe enough for the quad? Also I hear there is some sled gathering there this weekend, is this true?

Yep, 22nd North American Snow Festival. That is one reason we are going up on Thursday night.

Jumpshootin' lives right down the road from there, maybe he'll jump in and add something here, since I know he not only hunts that lake, he trains his dogs there-in other words, it's not entirely private, there's a state land access on the west side of the lake...and it's right outside of Traverse City...;)

Correct, it is not entirely private, just gets less pressure I think. But there has got to be better fish there than they are pulling out of Mitchell or Cadillac. And good ice maybe.
