I was booked with Floyd Hales out of Beaverton for the second weekend in Feb. but after reading this site I switched to fish with Rick at Simcoe Fishing Adventures because everyone said he was the man and Cooks bay was the place to be.
Now I am reading how slow the fishing is and that I should get out of Cooks bay because they are catching fish out of Beaverton.
I only have a couple days to decide or I won't get my deposits back.
Any imformation would be helpful.
No staying home is not an option I already have purchased a bunch of tackle, a aquaview and way to much beer to not make this trip.;)

I'd call Whitey (Rick) and tell him what you've heard, he's as honest as they get and will not steer you wrong. If he says he can get you on fish, he will. good luck up there

As a fisherman I'm sure you know that the fish move daily. I would stick with Whitey. He will put you on fish. When we went, we only caught one perch in about 2 hours. He came out and moved us to another shanty and we caught plenty of fish. Check out this site for more info.

Not to sound rude but that's why they call it fishing and not catching. Either way you will have fun. Don't worry about things you can't control. Good luck with your trip.

Hey Troy,
I have taken customers out ice fishing on Simcoe 20 times the past few weeks and have been on Cook's and the N.E. end of the lake lots. Based on past experience and most of the reports I'm hearing they are getting lots of dinks in Cook's. I'm currently taking my customers out and working 3 different GPS spots approx. 4-5km N.W. of Beaverton on some large flat transistions in over 30' and have big fish on the bottom all day long. You may not always catch as many as Cook's but the average size of the fish will be considerably larger for sure. I have been fishing this lake hard year-round for 27 years and this pattern has held true for most of them. Here is a sample pic of a couple 13"ish fish taken the other day.....
Good luck with your trip.... Greg.

There are usually bigger fish at this time of year around Pt bolster to beaverton, but this year I will be the first to admit that both spots are producing smaller fish than usual. There are big perch to be had, but you will work much harder than normal for them. Good luck. I would stick with Whitey.

Thanks guys I am going with the majority and staying with Whitey.
I am sure we will not be disappointed no matter how many fish we actually catch.
Less fish = more beer
more beer = less fish
either way we win.
