6 of us went up to Lake Simcoe for the weekend. We fished out of Gilford.
Fishing was REALLY slow. For two days we only brought home 46 keepers, and some of them were nothing to brag about. Biggest fish was 10.5".
Had a good time out of the ice, but the fishing sucked. We moved around a lot but no one got into anything. WE asked around and talked to the DNR but no one was doing much good.
I talked to some guys from Bay City who were fishing out of Lefroy, which is about 2 miles north os Gilford and in some deeper water. They did alright.
Pretty disappointing trip, but still had fun.

Hope the fishin gets better. We are headed over in 2 weeks. This inconcistant weather has to have them all confused. Especially with the pressure rising and falling so much. What was the ice like, we are fishing out on cooks bay on the West side I can't think of the town right now.

6 guys and 46 keepers for 2 days, wow. I don't think I could keep such a positive attitude, my hats off to ya. Those perch should should are about how much a pound:yikes: You'll just have to use extra batter when you have a fish fry for 6:)

I fished out of Gilford and Lefroy with the same results. It was my first trip to Simcoe and I wasn't to impressed. Long drive, not sure if I'll be going back any time soon. We need some ice down to LSC and I'll be good to go.

The Port Bolster/Beaverton area has been giving up some nice fish. Cooks Bay starts to get tough to fish about this time of the year.

Was out of Virginia Beach and two of us brought home 130 with 40 10 to 12 inchers but I admit on Friday the bite was tougher but the other post is right you need to get out of Cooks Bay.

I was booked with Floyd Hales out of Beaverton but canceled and rebooked with Rick at Simcoe fishing adventures to fish Cook's Bay.
Everyone said that was the place to be and cook's bay was the best for fish.
Help I still have time to cancel and rebook what should I do.

Both are very good operators by the sounds of everyone on the Lake Sicoe board.Simcoe fishing adventures I would trust in cooks bay as he will move you to fish.

Well it was tough. I tried to stay positive and wait for the afternoon/nightfall bite but it never came. No pike on tipups all weekend. We had suckers, goldies, and even dead smelt and had no takers.
I must have talked to about 30 people on the ice and went around a drove to 3 different bait shops to hear their story. Nothing different, tough bite.
I heard people on the north side of the lake were taking better and more fish.
We had already booked with an outfitter so I didnt want to cancel on him.
I will be back up to Simcoe, but not this year.
Good luck to anyone going up there. If you need info on motels or bait shops let me know. People were very happy to have some Michigan boys up there.
ALSO.... THIS IS MAJOR. GET YOUR BEER IN MICHIGAN OR AT THE DUTY FREE.
HERE ARE THERE BEER PRICES UP THERE.
12 PK LABATT BLUE $22.50 CA
12 PK SMITHWICKS $23.50 CA
1 FIFTH OF BARCARDI RUM $22.75 CA
PRICES WERE CRAZY AND THE EXCHANGE RATE UP THERE WAS $1.10 CA FOR EVERY US DOLLAR. (NO GOOD AT ALL)
Spent too way too much money up there. Smoke were anywhere from $7 to $9 a pack.

Steve hit the nail on the head.........my two partners got back Saturday morning and had the same luck as Steve, They didn't keep anything under 10 inches. Wednesday evening through Thursday the bite was great but then a cold front came through and pretty much shut down the fishing, they still managed to get a some fish on a single gold hook with a minnow but it was slow going. Personally, i would stay away from Cooks Bay this time of the year....way too many people, you can catch a lot of dinks if thats what your into. Go East young man!!

Hey Brent,
Really sorry to here that you did not get into more larger fish but Cook's often fishes that way this time of the year. I have been taking my customers out on the E. side of the lake from Sibbald's to Thorah Island and larger fish are the rule.... not the exception. Case in point.... I took my son out for 1.5hr on Sun before we had to go to his playoff hockey game. Fished from approx. 1-2:30pm.... bright sunny skies and no live bait and still managed some good fish..... had we been there in the am we likely could of filled the pail..... here is a couple pics from Sun.... I'm out there all the time and the key is to move around and try other area's on the lake.... schools of bigger fish are always on the bite somewhere.;)
Take care and Good Fish'n...Greg.
