went out for a little overnight excursion saturday after hearing there was safe ice. there was a ton of people there. the parking lot at the state park was full well before dark and the people kept coming all night long. as for our fishing we got two smelt for 5 hours of fishing. i don't know if it was all the activity on the ice or if it's just a little early but the fish just were not there. the vex is usually covered from top to bottom with marks but this night you would get one swimming by every once in a while at different depths. i didn't even see any swimming around our light. others may have done better because we did see a couple guys with about 25 apiece but even where they were the vex only showed a few fish. i plan on going back in two weeks and hope to hear some better reports. the ice by the way was about four inches of black ice and two inches of white on top. this was out from the state park i didn't see anyone out from the music camp. there were at least a dozen permanent shantys and one guy had a quad with a trailer shanty. i thought it was a little risky for the quad but he seemed to have done fine
