Hit the ice about 10:30am, nice early start (:rolleyes: ;) ) 8" of clear ice with a couple of white on top of that. 8" of snow in the Hale area, backroads too. Beautiful day, sunny, little wind, unbelievable high baro pressure may have slowed the fishing down a bit but we managed to bring home a meal or two. Gear performed admirably, no mishaps (rare for us ! :yikes: :lol: ). Here's a couple pics from the trip;
Some of the others out there with us:

Whale, nice pictures. I have not fished there this year, but it is a beautiful place. Is the big permanate hut on the ice this year ? I think the guy lives in Birch Run, he has a big stack of firewood on the ice. He must keep that thing cooking inside as he usually fishes in a t-shirt. Did you see any pike or walleye caught ?

sakmaniac and others, Loon Poop Bay aka Loon S**t Bay is on the back waters of the AuSable. It is just down stream from 5 Channel Dam. It holds panfish, pike and sometimes walleye.

Yes that guy is still there but has moved his hut towards the gravel.No eyes caught Sunday that I saw.My uncle goes there a few times a week and has see a couple of 6#ers caught.Some 3-4 guys fishing near us with tip-ups had a field day on the pike with at least 3 keepers and 8-10 throw backs that I saw.They also got a 2 large perch on there tip-ups.As for me a few small perch is all I caught.

Forgot to post that when I cleaned up the fish, all the Perch were stuffed with baby Bass ! No more than 1" long, most of them around 3/4" in length. Pretty cool. Them Perch were full of these Bass. The Redears had one small minnow in the largest one and then the balance of their bellies revealed the typical "goo", small invertibrates, insects etc. :cool:

you know I used to fish that place everytime I used to go out over the years and came home with an empty bucket. I did fish it once this year and chaught 45 nice sized gills, but went back a couple of times and came home empty. I do see where you were fishing and always thought about going over to that nice deep location, maybe I will give it one more chance and fish in that general area, i know that the walleye take a stroll through that area. I will give loon bay one more chance and if i come home empty i will never fish it again, i will stay on my new lake, Long Lake- nice gills- perch- and eyes

Does that x67 have a rechargable battery????

Have one on the boat that I want to drag up to higgens for the smelts...wound up with a 2nd transducer so I figured I give it a try on the hardwater. Don't really want to buy a pair of 6 volts every year.

Everyone - thanks for the comps on the pics.

salmonslammer - yes it does have a rechargeable 12v batt. The unit works great. Graph mode really rocked when the fish caome in aggressive and the colors start to change/thicken into orange and red. too cool.

tommy-n - thanks for correction. I'm not to hip on identifying them pannies, would like to start a bit more of that, a lot of fun. Usually do the Perch and 'eye chase ! ;) :D

May just have to go back there this coming weekend ! :fish2:
