Ok. I know this has been asked but I have some serious questions about steel thru ice.

1. Do I need a long rod or can I use a short medium action icerod?

2. Do I use a teardrop? (seems like hook would be too weak)

3. Line size? (i hear 4-10#...)

Could be I have the name wrong. Slammers?

Some kind of gizmo used for steelhead through the ice, that slaps when a fish takes the bait. I'm assuming a spawn bag.

Where in the world do you catch steel through the ice. Now that sounds fun, I never even thought of it. I could come up with a million questions for this topic!!!

I'm with hypox. Sounds like as much fun as you can have with your cloths on. Question, though. Don't they bump their heads on the ice when they try to tail walk? And thanx to jimbos43 for the link. I may just be making another equipment purchase soon if I get some good advise on where to deploy it. I'm all ears...

So, Would anyone who has done this be willing to make a small outing of it sometime this winter. I love trout and steelhead fishing. I also love ice fishing. I never have done them combined. We should all get together and do it....sounds like a blast!!

Seen those "Slammers" used on an outdoor TV show and they are pretty slick. Kinda reminds me of a downrigger setup in the way the rod is bent over when it is set. When the steelie takes the bait the rod "releases" and the trip arm free falls down with a slapping sound.
