i was up there in front of the marina until 7:15, and never seen anyone get pulled out of the water. there was 8-9 inches of ice out there, and quads out further.
Bd7's right.
I was less than 100 yards from where it went in. The guy thought he could get back to where he had fished just the night before, the overnight snow made it tough to see the edge, it was right out by the shove ice in about 15 fow. He was not alone and it took about half a dozen guys with planks and a winch to pull it out. He got real lucky, 1. he got off the maching before it went down. 2. It was in daylight. 3. he wasn't alone. 4. managed to snag it before it went all the way to the bottom. Be careful out there, just because there is 8 inches of ice doesn't mean you can assume all is the same as yesterday. Glad he's ok, it could have been a disaster.

Just started somewhat residing there this past july, wanting to make it out....if anyone wouldnt mind fishin with a "new" kinda local in the am let me know, wife and I plan on checkin out the festivities also....
Reason I am Kinda local is that the wife lives there and I do only on most weekends due to my job in Muskegon....
As far as Ice there was plenty where i drove the pickup out last weekend;)

Lots of ice out from Jerry's Marina, you can see the huts from town. A few spearing huts at the state dock as well, the ice just refroze last night outside of the harbor. Temps in the teens for tonight but warm up for friday. Should be good ice by Feb.10

Just wondering if the perch have even been around?

There is a ton of perch, unfortunetly they are all dinks. I saw the same thing last year and thought in another year they would be keepers. It can't be for lack of food since fall there have been lots of minnows at the state dock. The guys spearing have been seen schools of perch, but no size.

The townships of Plainfield,Tawas & Baldwin are open to shoulder of the road atv traffic.
I'll be up there.... but my instincts tell me there will be too many people competing for limited space this year. At least a litlle too crowded for my liking. Might head for some brews but I will fish elsewhere.
Don't try it in EAST TAWAS yet you will get a ticket !
It is still being looked at .but it looks good for some type of change..soon too.

I here the demo is no longer on the list of thrillers...:yikes:
A little short of ice ? shucks ! no demo on the ice this year ....might as well stay home now ....
To anyone comming up here with "fishing" on their minds, use caution we've had new ice develop and a dusting of snow, it's deceving where it starts. Don't take chances , play safe and have fun.
