I'm going to the cabin tonite and was wondering if there are any perch being caught up there. Just looking to catch a few for the Skillet.

Didn't I read somewhere that Van Etten lake is in the running for the next Comorant Capital of the world? :yikes: My bud told me he'd be surprised if there were any fish under 10 pounds left in that lake after last sumer. Thats one of the places the DNR are looking to have a little egg busting and sh-- bird shoot this year.

Regarding the perch bite on Van Ettan Lake, the bite has been very good but the chances of getting a meal are not as good. This lake is reliable for perch but the size is always small. My last four outings there in the last two weeks totaled 573 perch and the ones I took home made a meal for two. Even those were marginal keepers. In the four years I have fished here I have never caught a perch over 10 inches although I have heard of some good ones just before spring breakup. Fish anyway because it's really about the pursuit.

My Van Etten bud figures being the Alewives are all but gone on Lake Huron, the (Flying Needle Billed Scuds) are invading inland lakes with easy picking more and more.
