I'm looking to get out this weekend on the ice but want to stay close to GR if I can. I don't think there's much safe ice around GR, unless somebody can prove me wrong. Any safe ice on Brook's lake or any other lakes around Newaygo and White Cloud?

Thanks!

the only lake in this area i heard of anyone out on was crystal. and i heard it turned to puke over this week. we have had 2 cold nites though, so she might have firmed back up . bout everything else around here has open water -- at least some anyway.

The forecast for today and tommorrow don't look promising......and neither does the ten day really, no nights below 25.

Have not checked any of the lakes personally. However, one of the mechanics at work took a big dip in RollWay Lake earlier in the week. He knows the lake well, and is usually out on it before most of the other lakes up this way freeze up.

Me ... I'm just waiting for a certian launch to loose a little ice (skim ice formed earlier this week). Might just have to use the spud to clear a path for the boat.

Steve,

I don't think you are going to find any fishable ice in the GR area. I live north of town. Sunday on the way back from Cadillac I checked a number of northern Kent and southern Newago county lakes. They were ugly.

At the momoent, Cadillac is the closest ice that I am comfortable getting on.

What a lousy season! If I knew it was going to be like this I would have held off on my trip up to the UP. Now I don't feel so bad about not getting a shanty this year.

If you know of any smaller lakes in Newaygo county that are not super deep they may be fishable. Checked one today that was before todays warm temps. Depending on snowfall. If northern Newaygo county does not get hit to bad I would say it would be a go 70/30. For 100% you would have to go north of Newaygo county.

Another warm day today, 4-8 inches of wet snow expected overnight, I think we may be screwed for ice around these parts for a while.

You guys might consider Missaukee if you're going to travel that far. We were up there last Sunday and the action wasn't great for us but other reports coming in were positive. I haven't heard of much good coming from Cadillac and Mitchell.
