Tried a favorite early ice lake which is quite small Saturday and the ice was 2 to 2 1/2 inches at best----very shaky but should be decent by Wednesday or Thursday.
Big Portage Lake wide open but North canal had 3 fishermen on it on 2 1/2 to 3" of ice.
Little Portage covered with ice but will be another few days and access is a problem.
Chilson Pond ice covered for a week now--probably fair ice but no report available.
Lake Chemung-very poor ice and not completely covered-maybe ok in some areas by next weekend.
Kensington ice covered but very thin ice--maybe ok in some areas by this Saturday.
Will try a couple other spots New Years Day and post a late evening report.

walleyechaser,
Good report, I agree with everything you wrote. I checked out Silver Lake and it was 80% open water on Saturday. Lossee Lake was ice covered but the ice was only 1" thick max. Pickerel Lake was 100% open water.
Sunday I checked out Gosling Lake and, while it was covered with ice, it didn't look real thick.
I think this weekend might bring good ice conditions on Silver Lake in small bays.

Big Portage froze over Monday night with the help of low temps and no wind.
Fished a canal on Big Portage New Years Day that had about 3"
of hard ice. Managed about a dozen 9 - 10" gills.
Note to anglers fishing canals or any shallow areas of LSC or the like. Please use a little common courtesy and try not to crowd other anglers. Shallow water fish can be very spooky and parking on top of another angler will ruin the bite for both of you. Your best odds of catching a meal of fish in the shallows is to move off on your own and make a number of holes that you can quietly move to after the fish have settled down. Try to stay on areas that are snow covered as your movements will be much harder for the fish to detect and avoid creepers if possible.
Another trick that has paid off many times is to fill the hole with snow leaving a hole as big around as your finger to drop your line through or float a small bobber in. Try this on spooky fish and you'll be pleasantly surprized at the result more often than not.

Fished a small lake in southern Livingston County on Monday from 3 - 5:30 pm. Had 45 perch for the effort from 9 to 11 1/2 inches. The perch were going crazy of a pink/white jack spoon (bead removed) with minnows hooked through the eyes.
Ice thickness was around 4 inches.
Going back today to put a few more in the freezer.
