Mine is foulrescent orange wit ha big eyeball on it. Or those chartreuse with little black tiger stripes painted on them . I hear black and chartreuse are good too. I bought 100 little crome teardrop backs and am going to soder up a bunch of them tommorow since I dont feel any ice is safe here yet.

Also I wanted to mention that on Mitchells Bay I had great luck on those little rapala swimming minnows reapianted with chartreuse body with glow in the dark belly orange throat and Orange trout dots on teh body.... I painted up some pimples the same and did good .

Green, orange, and white. I've got to experiment more this year, it's too easy to keep tying on the same teardrops that always seem to work.

A blue Marmooska in size 10 has been deadly for me the past 2 years. I have caught probably better than 300 gills over 9" the past 2 winters. The one time I was able to get on the ice this year the only color that seem to produce this year it was a perch color horizontal hanging bait.( Don't Know the name got it as a Christmas present with about dozen others and haven't seen it in any shops). Good luck this winter!!!

Has to be the Bad Dog with glittery dark purple on the inside, and a glittery chartreuse back. Always been my top producer.

Black Bart.... A black teardrop with red glitter when its cloudyand a white moonglo with red dot when the sun is out. Sometimes I'll go thru a dozen colors before I get the right one, but those are what are good starters for me

On local lakes, I primarily use two tone jigs, Devils or Moon Glitter jigs in orange and chartreuse or green and chartreuse for gills. When chasin perch white rockers.

i have never really founnd one color that out produces others, i think style of the jig makes a difference though. Custom jigs and spins are my favorite

Found a tiny little jigging spoon not much bigger than a teardrop. Custom hand painted with chartr. white, red, gold back. Believe it or not the guy at the store sold me on them by jigging them in the minnow tanks. He caught one after another on the bare hook. Suckers and shiners didnt matter. Pretty good sales pitch so I bought a few. We'll see.

It depends on what color looks good to them that day. I like chartreuse/orange, green/yellw. and I have one like fischman thats purple with gold glitter and white underneath with a chartreuse spot. But all it is is a small dia. wire wrapped tight all the way down the shank and then painted. It's a killer though.

Heres the results of the soder a thon .....
20 willow leaf spoons 10 white, 10 pink

10 green
10blue marmooskas
10 gold marmooskas
10 black marmooskas with glitter and silver dots
5 crazy chartreuse perch type rocker minnows
one swimming clump i painted white with silver stripes

thats about all since i found my good flourescent paints hardened into useless paint bricks hehe

I plan on getting some good bright oranges chart and reds
also tied some ice flies : gnats , little peacock bodies hex, little black buggers, and some royal coachmens and mosquitos

can never be too prepared you know!

Ive had decent luck with the glow in the dark ones for gills and perch. I would think they would be good for crappie at night to.

Seems to depend on the lake, in terms of what colors produce best. Locally, hot pink has been my "go to" color at Lake Ovid for gills and crappie. Lake Lansing, chartreuse seems the most consistant producer. However, I am not at all sure if the issue is color, or the amount of confidence in the color.
Regardless.....always fun to experiment.

In my experience over the years, there's three things that effect the fishes color of choice. Water clarity, amount of sunlight and depth to a lesser degree.
Shallow Water
For gills and crappie in shallow water, purples, black and red do well during bright conditions while orange, chartreuse and white seem to produce better during low light conditions.
Deep Water
gills and crappies respond to chartreuse/white and also dark colors like purple and black with sparkle. Glow in the dark jigs also work well at times.
Night Time Crappies are sight feeders and a minnow is enough to get their attention so I don't use any color at all. The group that I fish with regularly have gone totally to tiny #16 black treble hooks when using minnows for crappie. Using little treble hooks, we rarely use a crappie, no matter how big the fish.
Perch have more of a preference for specific colors and often the brighter the better. The last couple of years we've had great success with large pink and white jigs/spoons with silver backs.
Another seldom used jig that does very well for me on jumbo perch when they're finicky is a small, perch pattern jigging rapala with a small minnow or minnow head on the bottom treble hook worked very slowly.
