Just got done driving around Walled Lake on 12/31/01 at around 4:30pm. I stopped at the beach and stepped onto the ice. The ice cracked but did not break through. I kicked a hole through with the heel of my foot and found ice to be approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick. I saw two guys out about 100 yards from shore near where the old A & W used to be standing pretty close together. Looked like they had some tip-ups going. Another guy walked out about 50 feet with his waders on. Still a little too thin for me I think. I wouldn't chance it!!
