Sat morning heading to gun show in flint. I looked over saw two deer running towards golf course
and the third deer about 30 yards from shore had broke through and was kicking for life but heading in the right direction (boy what a bad seen) yes that was kent lk and we were heading west. Only bright news is when we came back home it apeared that the deer had broke ice all the way to shore as there appeared to be a dark path to shore. Hope so eh! Anyway don't think its safe yet!!!!

No ice at all on Union Lake last friday. Some of the straits lakes did have some ice. No one out there, but that was four days ago.

There is 3-4" of ice at turtle head in kensington. the boat launch is still iffy 2-3" for about 50 yards. the rest of the lake is froze over but still thin. The island lake side is 3-4" for the most part but very dirty water. last report from kensington alot of small gills and perch.

No shantys out at the Straits lakes yet. Usually we see some on Middle Straits by now. I plan to check Commerce Lake this weekend at least for ice thickness.

Craig, havn't been this year to orchard . last year was kind of slow there. and the year before we got 2 or 3 pike each time fished average seemed to be around 30". panfish were smaller with a few gills around 10" but for the most part small. Ice fishin' nut is upper straits private. live about 15 minutes from there but never tried to get on lake.

Fished Commerce for the first time during ice fishing season. Only one gill between two of us. Fished the north end out from the beach and boat launch. Ice 2 1/2 to 4 inches thick but many air pockets and some open areas. Be careful. It was nice to use the flasher to spot the fish throgh the ice (the only one I caught).
One person out on Union Lake at the public access site off Union Lake Road. I don't know what's up with the bait shop just north of this site but it was closed midday. With so many lakes you would think you could find a couple bait shops. We found one on Benstein and Glengarry, NE side next to a party store. Nice guy with all the necessary stuff.
Couple guys on Wolverine Lake. No reports since everyone was heading out.
One shanty on Lower Straits Lake. I don't think Upper Straits has public access. There is access to Lower Straits at the bridge by the river but there is no ice at that site.

I've accessed upper straits numerous times on the west side of lake. As long as you're curtious and dont leave a mess, it's all good. Keep it clean, cuz the fishin' is awesome. Slammed lotsa gills on Sherwood on Sun. It looks like they're remoding the baitshop on cooley lk.rd.,been goin to kd. Sure do miss Dick's bait in Commerce! Stay on top.....BG
