Found Ice!!!

I spent most of Saturday searching for safe ice. There was one lake in the area that was safe at least a bay. There must have been 75 guys out there. Not for me. Don't get me wrong there was decent ice. I just don't care for the big crowds so i continued to search. I did find a lake that was real close to being solid enough though. I called my brother and arranged to meet him in the morning and see if we could make it out onto the lake. We did!!! What a morning! Fishing in 16 feet of water about 4 feet off bottom we slammed the big gills. We kept 40 for the pan and released probably twice that many. Most of the real big ones went back. This small lake you got to leave some big fish to spawn but what a ball. Unfortanetly theres alot of snow comming down. I'm afraid its going to weight the ice down and by tomorrow we will not be able to fish it. Oh well, one great morning is better than none.

I also fished this "bay" you are talking about on Friday and managed to catch some decent size crappies. I did do some searching around for more safe ice but didn't find to much. Did find one lake that was on the border line though. Am anxious to get back up there to check it again. What lake did you fish. My email is jblairk@hotmail.com if you don't want to post.

Frozen I fished the haymarsh chain of lakes. I tried to get on the lake again this morning but the snow that was on the ice over night pushed the ice down and there was no way anyone could get on the lake. It was to the point that I wasn't going to risk it. On my way back to the truck I ran into another local guy who said he was going to try it any way he made it out over 6 feet over water and went through. Luckly he was able to keep one leg on the ice and kind spread is body on the ice and roll out and away. By the time he made it back to shore his clothes were frozen solid he couldn't even get the zipper on his bibs open to get his keys. Good thing I stuck around I ended up giving him a ride home so he could unthaw. I guess I will have to fight the crowds on the bay tomorrow if I going to go out.

Stopped by lake Neppesing after work today to check the ice conditions there was 3inches of ice . I only walked out 75 yards or so. Will be fishing tommorow afternoon. Ill keep yah posted.
