First of all I would like to say that this is a great site. I have been ice fishing for a couple of years now, and enjoy it more and more each year. I have learned a lot from visiting this site over the past couple of weeks thanks to all of you sharing your knowledge and experience. Thanks for everything.
Now on to my topic. I have a mora hand auger and would be very interested in getting a power auger if it weren't for the cost. A co-worker informed me that the Lazer hand auger is a good compromise. Acccording to him, it is much much easier to use than the mora, and only costs a little more. Has anyone out their compared/used the two of them? If so, please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard Brad
I have a lazer, and I love it! It is too smooth, and light weight.I used a mora,it was o.k.but it can't compare to the lazer.Keep the blades sharp and will give you alot of service!

I have owned three hand augers a Jiffy, a Mora, and a lazer. The lazer is by far the best. Not only does it cut effortlessly with sharp blades it will open a hole that is froze over allowing you to fish the exact spot where you caught the fish the day before. and not make all the noise made by drilling a completely new hole. Hope this helps and good luck this winter.Selective harvest is the future of fishing

I have both a gas and a lazer (4in and 8in), I only use the power auger in places like Simcoe, Lake Crystal, thick ice conditions, over 18in of ice. The lazer is one hell of an auger. Keep the blades sharp and free on nicks and you will never have a problem.

Definitely the "Lazer" is the way to go ! I have and use a "Mora" too, it just can not compare to the speed, smoothness, and efficiency of the Lazer.
Remember the advice from above posts, (sharp blades, no nicks, etc.), for the minimal money compared to the expense of a gas auger besides the additional weight of the gas driven style, I'll put the Lazer up against ANY gas auger in ice up to 12" + thick !

I also have a lazer and love it to death. It is by far the best hand auger ive ever used. I can easily cut through 10 inches of ice in about 10 seconds. Ive cut 20-30 hole in a night without wearing my arms out. I definatly reccomend a lazer auger.

MIKE maybe we can pawn them off for one lazer? and share it you get it on odd day and i'll get it on even days :D
Sounds like a plan! I bought one of the sharpeners for the auger blades this year, figure I'll give it a try. If it doesn't work, I think I'll buy a laser instead of more blades for the mora.
