It's gonna be a little while folks !:(

I just took my wife and son for a ride to Stoney Creek metropark.
I wanted to see what the ice was looking like. Well, there's still open water out in the middle off of Eastwood beach. We drove all the way around the loop. The North lake is completely frozen at this point. Just a little open water to the south side of the dam. I don't know if that ever completely freezes though. Water is completely frozen up to the south dam. If the temps stay in the teens and low 20s it should be safe by next weekend I'd bet.
We did see one person ice skating, it was close to shore though where it's shallow :p .
If anybody else is in the area and wants to drop in and check things out that would be great. Post ice reports here until things get going good.

It's getting close sportspeople !!!!:D :D :D

Hi Nut.
I guess I should say "Middle Lake". I mean the lake that is South of 28. We usually refer to Stoney as the main lake and the North lake. (meaning the one N. of the dam) You're not supposed to fish the lake north of 28 unless you access it from a boat. So that's what we mean when we say Main lake and North lake.

Went to stoney today for an ice check. 2-3" on the north lake. Solid clear ice. Walked out about 100 yds. spudded a few holes to check for thickness. Felt perfectly safe. Let the fun begin. South lake had a little open water in the very middle between baypoint and eastpoint beaches.

Went out today to check ice. Was a guy fishing the main lake at Lake View Picnic area and walked out to talk to him. He was out about 30 yards and had 2" at best. He went out another 10 yards stuck in his spud and it went thru. Eastpoint and Baypoint had open water in front of it. He was the only guy fishing.
The north lake from the north dam to 28 mile looked pretty good, but no one was fishing. Stopped in at r@r party store on Mound and 24 mile north east corner and he has bait. He had minnows and wax worms and chubs. He opens at 9:00 A.M but he said he was going to open earlier but didn,t say when.

Wow, how fast it changes! I'm trying to remember which day I checked on Stoney, it was after Christmas. Quite a bit of open water.

I'm real excited to hear it's freezing over solid and fast! I'm THERE!

BTW, I checked Selfridge the same day. St. Clair was all open water behind the bait shop. The boat launch was frozen solid, about 6 guys where fishin' it.
