one thing I do annualy is consistently bait for Jan/Feb a protected (but visible from my kitchen window) area after the season to "see who made it".

Anyone else do anything like this? curious as to what you have seen so far. Over the past 4 years I have seen a marked decrease in the number of deer coming in to it. In fact, it is rarely touched nowadays. I have only seen the same mature doe and two fawns that I passed up all season come into it since xmas.

3-4 years ago it was POUNDED on during Jan-Feb..

This is what I use to give me a good indication of what the following season will be like and what if anything needs to be taken out.....it proves to be quite accurate when comparing sightings the following season.

I don't live in an area where I could do this.:( Do you think the lack of snow and the over abundent acorn crop of this past year could be having an impact on what you are seeing?

It may have something to do with it....but I have seen a steady decrease over the past 4 years, with acorn crops and snowfall being significantly different each year.

We usually watch the deer daily here also. However, immediately following rifle season, they do not come too close to the house. They have just started returning again and all looks well.

We have been cutting firewood and if anything we've seen more deer that we normally do at this time. Tons of tracks too.

We're not seeing deer anywhere, near the house, are away from it, driving our rural roads, etc. They can move anyplace they desire now due to a lack of any significant snow cover.

Better call it "Feeding for Recreational Viewing" instead of "Baiting" before someone starts flaming you and turns this thread negative. LOL

I do the same and have seen 4 survivors out of 7 normal visitors.

Recreational Viewing 'feeding' was understood in this case - because as we all know, hunting season is over, therefor you couldn't be baiting, and supplimental feeding is also against law right now in the LP :yikes:

But stay on topic - I don't have to look and see who survived this year - as I know ALL OF THEM DID - as I got skunked this year and let 'em walk waiting for a better opportunity and opportunity never walked by -
