Heading out tommorow with my 17Hummer. I'm gonna try an owl decoy with the crow decoys. I heard this works great. Anyone try this?

I have tried the owl and didn't notice any differance in the amount of birds. Maybe I'm using it wrong though. You may want to wait to try out the hummer as crow season is not open yet.

this is the second time that someone has said that....crow hunting is great fun...in the OPEN SEASON. feb 1-mar 31 .
it is legal to shoot them if they are causing a nuisance or a health hazzard. if thats the case than good luck.

Good point, Mike.
I think alot of people still remember when crows had no closed season.
I believe the USA has some kind of treaty with Mexico, that we cant blast their national bird without some kind of controls.

REALLY?:yikes: I guess I just ASSumed it was open. Why do we care what the Mexicans think? They obviously don't care about us Americans. It would be embarassing to get a ticket for poaching crow.

i think that needs to be changed, the crow population is about as bad as morning doves and they are a junk bird just my opinion. the season should always be open.

You could add cormrants to that list. It'd make Lake Huron come back to life:rant:

I have good luck with a Jonny Stewart tape of a owl fighting crows when I use my owl decoy. It has worked very well when we add a piece of brown cloth under the owl. They think it is some type of fur under the owl?

At one time there was a year round season. Believe that I heard it had something to do with a treaty with, of all places, Mexico. Something about their national emblem or some such non-sense.

I was wondering, it seems like lately everyone is getting into hunt crows. I have never tried it. It seems like it would be like goose or duck hunting. I might have to give it a try in Febuary. Anyone who has done both goose hunting and crow hunting is it the same as hunting geese, or is it more like deer or turkey hunting? Thanks for the info.

PSEbuckmaster,
Crow hunting is like goose hunting.Use decoy`s,calls, head to toe camo, just remember crows are smart bird`s(not saying geese aren`t)if they bust you it`s over! The crow`s will just sit in the trees and call back to you but not come in.But if you do it right it can be some of the fastest shooting you will do!!!! Then just like that it willbe over and you wait for the next bird`s.Give it a try!!!! Duckman

It is more like field hunting geese. I Hunt in yankee springs state game area and use the run and gun technique with a handful of crow decoys and an owl decoy you can do alot of damage in a short time. Try not to hunt the same area for too long if they are local birds, they tend to smarten up quick. Good luckhttp://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f283/jsmith2232/crow003.jpg
