I went out yesterday 12/28 on a private lake in oakland county during the warm rain yesterday. Ice looked very bad, walked out with my new spud that I made at work,(it worked awesome, will be in production soon) fell through right at shore, stepped over to the side walked out 15 feet 2 hits spud went through, walked out 50 feet 3 hits spud went through. I found 6 inches of ice, but you could go through it with 3 hits. Very bad ice, almost like wet snow. I could take my spud slam it into the ice, and then pry it back and forth and the ice was just pushing away no strenth to it, but there was 6 inches. Went home geared up, 4 flags 15 keeper panfish, 10 gills over 9 inches. Theres a island on this lake and there was 2 guys pushing a rowboat from the island to shore loaded with his belongings. About 8 p.m. he started up the snowmobile and was driving around on the lake, and I was worried about walking on it. There is some ice out there that is fishable just be careful it's very soft.
