Out on union lake last night, lots of ice, A little soft by the shore line
once you get past that its fine.(in most areas)Looks like a snowmobile
or a quad went through the ice, large hole in the bay across from the
boat launch.Anyway Fished untill 8:00pm last night,Ice was 5 inches
thick.Caught 13 crappie using minnows. :)

That's as good as I've seen anybody do on Union lately! Nice job :)

If someone lost an ATV or sled in there I wonder if they can get it out. It's pretty deep in some areas around there.

Sometimes people ice dive there too.The hole may be from that.

I talked to somebody that lives on that lake today & they said it was a quad
that went through.Don't know if they got it out or not?

Nice job there Cooley! Although I've not been able to get out yet I've had great success in the past with crappie in the evening when you get a warm spell like this. The way its going though I dont think there will be much fishable ice around here come this weekend.

Thats another reason I'm heading to Houghton Lake this weekend! ;)

BTW - Whats that burning in your avatar?

I went there around 3:00 PM and left by ten after. I walked out to the 1st set of holes and proceeded to put my spud thru on the 1st hit in way too many places. There was about 3 inches of ice, with the top 2 inches being hard slush. While pondering my next move after a 1 hit spud thru, I had the top 2 inches collapse under my feet. I'll wait until we get a nice week of freeze before stepping on that lake again.
