Fished by the Saginaw waste treatment inflow to the river and had a hard time finding bottom. Snagged 8 gizzard shad in about a half hour and headed about 200 yards downstream to catch nothing. We were walking on the ice and picking our way for sure. Jumped back into the truck and headed below I-75 where the center of the river was open for about 1/4 mile stretch. Had two hits before the battery died for the trolling motor. Put the boat back on the truck and grabbed the sled to fish on the ice. I only had 3 hits and caught none while my son caught one 15 1/2 and one throw back for all our effort. Ice is going - you still might be able to fish the edge of the channel tomorrow morning. Any rain shows up and you can forget it for Thursday for sure.

Keep in mind that the Saginaw has a strong current, and with this warm weather the ice will erode from both sides. I've seen ice 8-10 inches thick disappear in 24 hrs.

Are you always getting out-fished and out-hunted by your son? If it wasn't for him, I think you'd be bangin empty plates at home!

If he outfishes me, that gives him some incentive to come back out with me. I lost the bigger fish anyways ;) . I said to heck with fishing tonight and stuck an arrow in another doe for the freezer - now he's only up 3 to 2 in that column and I still have 2 tags left.

Went this morning. Put in on center rd. I did not encounter any solid ice all the way north to hooters. Thats as far as I went. Water clarity bad. Current on the tib was fast till it dumped into the saginaw then it was very fishable. Lots of debris on the bottom such as leaves and other junk.
