My wife and kids gave me a Vexilar for Christmas. I couldn’t believe it!! I went out to Reeds lake
Monday and what a blast. Had a nice catch in 45 min., got there about 1:00 only had an hour to fish.

My question is about charging the battery on the Vex. The instructions only said to recharge as soon as you get home once the battery is warmed up and not to over charge it. I know some batteries used to have a memory and if you charged them with out letting them drain down you would wreck the battery. Can anyone tell me the best way to maximize battery life and run time? Thanks

Do just what it says, bring it in the house, wait till the battery is back to room temp and connect the charger.
They have a new "smart" charger that comes with it, it has a red light on it, when you hook it up the light will go out.
When the battery is fully charged the light will come back on.

The kind of batteries you're thinking of with a memory are NiCad batteries. The batteries in a Vexilar are lead-acid gel cells and do not have a memory.

Bear125, my thing on batteries for vex is go out and get another one. If you fish alot you will always have one ready for action. My vex is 3 years old and my first battery lasted about 2 years it doesn't have the battery deal that tells you how much life you have on a charge, that is one thing I will probably get next. A new battery is about 20 bucks, good luck and good fishing.:)
