Oh will my eagle fish finder work if I where to set it up with a Cycle Battery will they read through the ice or will I have to spud holes? thanks guys I need ice fishing for morons.:dizzy:

timberwolf your fish finder will work if made portable as long as it isnt very very cold.2 six volt lantern batteries run concurrently making 12 volts or 12 volt cycle battery will power the unit fine. The problem is the lcd or liquid crystal display which freezes. If you are in a shanty and its warm should work no problem then.If you had a vex or underwater camera probaly better.I like the camera myself for clear water but in murky water the vex is better.
As for fishing advice I cant realy help you there but Im sure some other members might give ya some tips.

ok thanks I will be reading till my eyes bleed any idea how low the temp has to be before the screen would freeze I mean will it die at just 32 degrees or colder?

Should work ok at or below 32* and from what I can remember its when the temp is in the 20`s thats when the lcd realy starts to freeze.I guess it would depend how long the unit is exposed to below freezing before the lcd starts to freeze.

I have read lcd crystals should be good down to 20 degrees.
Also in regards to fishing in general. If you are targeting perch and walleye you may want to stay with your smaller and lighter tackle and target panfish and perch to start. Reason being walleye in general can be one of the tougher fish to catch. Would hate to see your confidence ruined before you even get up and running. Good luck

One more Quistion on this is will it read through the ice like it reads through the hull of my boat or will i have to Drill hole to check. and whats the thoughts on adapter to use my cordless drill on a 8" auger I have made one but the weather has kept me off the ice.

Even a Lazer auger at 8 inches is asking too much of the cordless drill. At least that's been my experience with a 14 volt Ryobi. I could crank out a dozen holes in 20 inches of ice on one battery with my 6 inch Lazer, but when I put the 8 inch on I got through about 6 inches of ice and the battery got so hot I could feel it through my gloves. Interesting how much more torque is needed to get through that extra 2 inch diameter, especially considering the 6 inch Lazer would go through 20 inches in about 20 seconds with a fully charged battery. As far as the LCD reading through the ice, I think it will work OK if you clear any snow from the ice and wet the area you are placing the transducer. Try to get the ice as smooth as possible as well. Let us know of your success. Pics are nice, hope you post a bunch of 'em.

well I got a idea to test my adapter I pulled the cover back on the swimming pool hehehehehe. 10 inchs ice a cheap 8" eskamo auger and my 18 volt Riggid 1/2" drill punched four holes in about three minutes with lots of power left for more.

If you can get a piece of closed cell foam, you can cut a hole in the center and float your transducer instead of fighting with it.

Don't know if I uploaded the photo but here it is the black tape is there just till the slicon drys that should hold the transducer to the foam.

Most units will shoot thru good clear ice as noted above. However, with the recent snowmelt, thaw, and rain we have had ... you may find that it will not shoot thru the ice. So if it doesn't, don't be alarmed.

I gave it a try out in the pool and it did not shoot through the ice but it is as you described from the weather.

Yeah I wasnt sure if it would or not but I was thinking maybe not.Still you can drill another hole for your transducer np and with the wide angle and shallowness of the water it will cover alot of water where you are fishing at.With any unit you are fishing with your probaly going to get best results in 10ft depths or deeper. In shallow water you are probaly going to have turn your sensitivity way down.Good luck looks like a nice setup. Now we just need ice again.

lol...good one stinger. I was gonna say most of the reports I've seen from LSC this year sounds like 'minnows' is all anyone is catching. ;) A safe and happy New Year's to all!
